How to install memory from a dvd-r back into PC?

hello, so recently my computer had a weird problem. it was stuck in system restore, so my dad backed up the files with 6 dvd-r discs. the whole computer memory was wiped (pictures, documents, everything)

and i was wondering how i could re install everything now? i tried putting one on of the discs in, but it just gave me the choice of putting more pictures on the disc.

How is IMGBurn going to help him copy files FROM a DVD to the hard drive? He can just drag and drop for that.

How did your dad backup the files? Did he use a backup program or did he simply copy the files?

If he used backup software, you may need to use that software to do a restore. If he just copied the files then you should just need to boot the machine and copy the files from the DVDs.

Its been a while since I've used disc media, but it just sounds like the disc wasnt finalised when it was burnt, even though its a -r not -rw. It happens.
Either way, you shouldnt be able to add more files to the disc. It will just say 'insert blank media' if you try to.
You should however be able to copy files off the disk, and back to your pc, which is what you want to do.
