Are you reading all of the posts here, including the blue links which are illustrated tutorials?

I think you missed Post 7 which answered all of your questions.

If you want to work with the others then that's fine, but don't pretend that all of your questions weren't answered clearly and completely earlier if you'd only read and interacted instead of ignoring them.

Correct but some day, assuming you are also fortunate, you will reach the advanced years and understand better why one would rather be spoon fed than sitting down before a massive meal which would satisfy anyone's desires.

Yes, I have a valid COA from the bottom od the laptop. I went back to an earlier suggestion that mentioned "How to Clean Reinstalla Factory OEM Windows 7" From that page I clicked on the link to download the latest official Win 7 ISO with SP1. I downloaded it to a CD-R. File X17-58997.iso and it ended up in the C:\Program Files and from there I copied it to my CDROM drive. The files were copied and I tried it in my laptop, but nothing happened. My laptop is set to load from my CDROM drive as the first option in the BIOS. Now I will go back and repeat the download to a DVD-R disk and will report the results. I appreciate everyone's patience.

I tried a both a DVD-R and a DVD-RW and neither disk would accept the ISO file. I know the drive is a DVD-RAM drive so there must be something in the way I'm downloading it. I notice that when I attempt to download the file type is not recognized and I'm given a choice of programs to use...WinZip, IsoBuster, etc. I used both and both allowed the file to be downloaded ending up in the C:\ProgramFile folder. Any suggestions?

ken,
I'm a little bewildered.

First, forget all of those other programs for downloading, etc. You do not need them. they can only cause problems.

Which browser are you using to make the download?

I've never downloaded from that site, but do they specify what the "hash" is for the file?

If they do then we can use a program like "hashmyfiles" to determine the hash of the file and compare that against the value given.

I tried a both a DVD-R and a DVD-RW and neither disk would accept the ISO file.

You don't download that ISO to a DVD or a CD.

Download it to your hard drive, just like it was a picture or any other type of file.

After the ISO is sitting on your hard drive, then you have to burn it to a DVD using a burning program of some type.

The ISO by itself won't do you much good. You have to burn it to a DVD and then boot from that DVD to install Windows.

By browser, do you mean Inrenet Explorer? IE 8.0 I'm not sure what "hash" means but the sight was mydigitallife.info and it was suggested earlier in the Forum. I did download it to my hard drive (Temp Folder) as an ISO file. It was 3.0 Gb., but I tried to copy it to a CD and now I realize why you have asked me to copy it to a DVD...much more space. I don't do much "copy/burn" stuff. I am currently downloading the earlier file (3.0Gb) to my hard drive (partition G:/ProgramFile) so I can find it quickly. Problem is that now the download has slowed down and instread of 600 to 800Kbs/second it's less than 200Kbs/second. It will be finished long after I'm in bed. I may need some help with the copy/burn part in the a.m. Will be using a DVD-RW (capcity 4.7Gb). Good night to all and again thanks for your patience and perseverance with my problem.

Once you download the ISO to your computer, move to Step 2 in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 to burn it to DVD using Windows 7 USB-DVD Download Tool.

Once you download the tool it will walk you through burning the DVD, or just ask back for more help.

He is 77 and has obviously never done any of this before maybe things can be slowed down a bit and taken one step at a time folks.

There's a lot of steps involved here, confirmation of each one would probably lighten the frustration on everyone.

Excellent!

I try to ignore my body, but even I must yield to the need for sleep.

If you have a Win 7 computer handy, then:

Now what these guys haven't told you is:

Window 7 can burn that ISO for you!

Just double-click on the ISO file and Win 7 will automatically present with a screen to burn to DVD. Just a second and I'll make a "snip" to include with this post:

Burning an ISO.png

Some important points and explanation:

In this example, I double-clicked on Win 7 Ultimate with SP1 x64.iso which is shown at the top of the window.

I also checkmarked "Verify". This way, the burn will be checked against what should have been burned to make sure that nothing went wrong.

The DVD drive in my case has the drive letter of M
Your drive letter will be different.

Put a dvd into the dvd unit on your computer and click on the BURN button.

No need to download any special burn software. Win 7 already has everything you need.
=====================================================

If you do not have a win 7 computer handy, then you can download and use IMGBURN which is free.

Karl I'm guessing he is doing all this on his wifes XP since his Win 7 isn't booting. There wasn't any mention of any other computers (besides the wifes in post #6) but I guess there could be another Win 7 involved.

Hey! I'm ready for the next step. Just to clarify...my computer and my wife's computer both are in the same room. We both run Win XP. I have downloaded the 3.0 Gb file (X15-65733.iso) to my hard drive (G:\New Folder). I tried to burn the file to a DVD using Windows Media Player, but even thoughI have used this process before for audio files, the ISO file is not being accepted? I downloaded Ahead's Nero Ver 5, but it doesn't appear to be an easy to use program. So should I try the imgburn? Or Step#2 as suggested by Gregrocker?

I downloaded Imgburn "Free Easy CD/DVD Burner V 5.1". Never saw a "verify" button , but the Burn Proof box was checked. Burned the file in 10 minutes and thank you very much! My Windows Media was never updated, so I updated and now that program has a "Burn" tab on the opening screen. Maybe that was part of my problem earlier?
Now I'm about to try the "new" disk in the laptop. Keep your fingers crossed. Will report back shortly.
