how to keep laptop cool while gaming?

Another option is a cooling rack from baking cookies.

Personally, I have a Coolermaster unit with a huge fan, it dropped my temps about 10° on my HP laptop compared to it being directly on my lap. I don't do any heavy gaming on it though, it's not built for that.

Great advice - but believe it or not, not everyone has air conditioning ;)

Depending on your handyman skills, I'd recommend jury-rigging a "cooling" desk.

I made one out of a cheap cookie rack with a box underneath. The top of the box is cut off (so the rack has a cavity beneath it). The "Back" of the box has 3 120 mm fans linked up to a transformer. Keeps the laptop pretty cool. Though I would strongly suggest putting a grille for the fans (the first version had me popping my fingers into the fans).
