I just had a crash on one of my external disks.
So I ran Crystal Disk Info on the other disks and got Normal (with a warning that the reliability is low) on the internal disk!

Which I assume means that I need to replace it.

I have a HP 7300 elite mt and the current hard disk is an Hitachi Deskstar 500 GB, but I would like to replace it with a larger disk 2 - 4 TB

How do I know if a disk will work in my computer?
(Suggestions on disks that will work is appreciated)

Any Sata disk would work. But for Windows 7 I would not go beyond 2TB because of the MBR restrictions.

Ok. I see that there are several versions of SATA (1,2,3,3.1,3.2) are they "just" about the speed?
My computer can use any revision?

It does not really matter. Sata 3 is only useful if you have a Sata 3 port on the mobo. But with Sata 2 you are probably well served.

According to Speccy I have this motherboard: Pegatron Corporation 2AB5
and the specifications (Pegatron Corporation 2AB5 Mainboard Specs) says that it have:
4 * SATAII 3Gb/s connectors SATA 2/3/4/5
3Gb/s transfer speed – Supports four SATAII ports (Orange/Light Blue/Black/Red Color)
Supports HDDs, Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
2 * SATAIII 6Gb/s connectors

6Gb/s transfer speed- Supports two SATA III ports (White/Blue Color) (SATA 0/1)

Which to me says that I should go for a SATA3 disk.

Any thoughts about WD RE 2TB SATA-600 7200rpm 3.5"

Sounds good. If you have a Sata 3 port, you might as well get a Sata 3 HDD. But if you want something really fast, get this one. It is only offered today. Then you can always have some slow HDD in your second Sata 3 port.
