how to learn computer from scratch?

Hi,

I know very little, so how can i learn about computers from scratch so that i wont need to take it to service and fix its problems myself.

I mean, i want to be a professional in computer general stuff.

Honestly, I'd start by reading a book. While lots of stuff is available online for free...having it all in one place might cause you to read things that you normally wouldn't have otherwise through about.

Let me tell you how I learned. I joined SevenForums in September, asking a question, and decided to stick around. I started to answer the easy questions, and also read hundreds of posts by other members. Gradually, I started to learn more and more.

Granted, I am still no professional by any means. My point is hanging around here has helped immensely.

The books by O'Reilly are excellent - if you want to look at books. In addition you may want to look at your local Community College and see whether they have classes. Also look whether there is a Computer Club in your area. They are always very helpful and usually offer classes too.

Building your own computer is the only real way to get started in learning the hardware...and usually results in learning how to troubleshoot as well. Once it is done, installing the OS is where you should start. My wife went from not know anything to working in I.T. without any traiing other than from me. When she wanted a computer, I had her build it. So, if you have any friends who are into computers, start shadowing them.

I learned a lot from hands on experience, building my PC's and friends machines.
I learned even more from the internet when it finally came around.

Reading through forums, such as this one, is a great way to start learning about computers. It takes baby steps, learn one thing at a time, and something new every day. Before you know it, you will start finding questions here and there that you can answer.

You can also use http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/home as a place to learn all about Windows 7. The tutorials here (http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/) are also great resources for learning!

Probably need to start by thinking about which aspect of computers you want to learn. The totality of the computer industry, together with business, science, and engineering is HUGE. No one can possibily know much about it all.

I think what you're really asking is how to service computer hardware -- a small part of the totality of computing.

And, if you want to narrow that down to servicing PCs, best way to start is to buy one of the PC repair guides that are out.

Ii you get good at it, you might want to consider earning your A+ certification -- and get PAID for servicing computers.

I would have to agree with this statement as I find it quite true myself.
I dont know alot, but what I have learned has been through hands on experience.
As well as through forums ,such as this one, when I have a problem I can not or do not know how to solve myself.

it takes time, go online read up on stuff your interested in. try for your own build. follow tutorials. basically start slow and then from there u will learn as time progresses.

or you could just buy the book if you don't want to take the class.

Read, read, read to learn as much as you can from computer books, & internet websites.

But I started learning from getting a couple of older desktop computers to use as science experiments, so I did not have to risk messing up my good everyday working computer
