How to make a partition in windows 7 without formating??????

hi i am naresh, i just bought a new laptop of brand acer it was packed , so wen we took hpme the laptop,we found that there is only one hard diskdrive ,c drive,with 500 gb space ,i want to make another drive but i don't want to format the laptop .is it possible please guide through this i really need this

Hello Naresh, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Before we are able to give proper advice, could you post a screenshot of your Disk Management (diskmgmt.msc) window showing all of your HDD's layout to see what options you may have?

Why not just use an external drive ?

If you want to make a new partition on your drive, you could use Partition Wizard Home 7.0.

You will have to format the new partition but you DO NOT have to format your C: partition.

as u requested for screenshot i have attached it with this post,
as u will see acer(c) is my one and only drive with 450.66 gb,there is a 15 gb reserved for recovery ,naresh(g)
&tataphoton(e) are the removal disks ignore them.
plz help

You can right click on the C: volume and Shrink it. This will give you an extended partition and you can use it for data or dual booting another OS.

There are third party programs that can do this for you as well namely Acronis Disk Director.
