I just bought ASUS Xonar DS to make my HTPC connect to Samsung HT-Z210 Home theater System via Optic cable (TOSLINK).
I can Play DVD with out any problems with sound.

but I want to make my old mp3 song, which is Stereo, up-mixes to 5.1.
How can I do it?

I must say that this could be a long, hard and painful process, impossible for the average bloke, so I suggest you stick with stereo and use Pro Logic (if you have it) on the receiver.

umm... i just have take a look at my reciver.
when i test each channel in Xonar DS Audio Center, my receiver says "dts Digital Surround", all 6 speaker work.
but when i play my song in Windows Media Player, my receiver says "LPCM", only 2 speaker work.

is this a problems in my case? i can't make my music transfer in dts format, so there are only stereo from my speaker.

Thats because music is only recorded in stereo. Dolby an the like are specifically for films and games which take advantage of the 5.1. Music can only do stereo I'm afraid. You can get the sound to come out of all six speakers but it will still only be in two channel mode.

Music can only do stereo I'm afraid. You can get the sound to come out of all six speakers but it will still only be in two channel mode.

Of course, that's not true at all. There are AC3 and DTS audio CDs, but those are very rare and very little artists decide on that approach.

Yet, the second sentence is quite correct. The sound you hear from your speakers may vary solely because of the production quality of each song/album. Sometimes a particular frequency which produces a sound gets caught in the right channel among the 5.1 speaker setup, mainly by accident. For example, the drum kick that goes into the subwoofer or a particular cymbal that can get caught streaming louder through the surround speakers instead of the main ones.

You need a DDL or Dolby Digital Live sound card. I have the Turtle Beach Montego DDL which they just released Windows 7 x64 beta drivers for. I've been waiting for years. This card will encode and pump out 5.1 music played from windows media player or any media player for that matter. Just because it says its 5.1 doesn't mean it going to encode music. I found out just like you are.

I have a DTS soundcard with DTS Connect (DTS Interactive & DTS Neo:PC). I have enable it, but no 5.1 sound out from my receiver.
My receiver can decode DTS, but its has 5.1 system, not 7.1. So i wonder if it can play or not, because DTS Neo PC says it will make 7.1 out.

At last, i wonder if the driver of my Xonar DS isn't compatable with Windos 7, i will figure it out on Vista re-install tonight. ^^

Are you sure your sound card will encode DTS on the fly. Most optic fiber sound cards will pass DTS. My card will encode mp3 to Dolby Digital Multichannel 5.1 surround. Does you card say it will do that? Mine will not encode DTS to anything. Mine will play back or decode DTS from say a DVD. Big difference. I have not seen any sound cards that will encode an mp3 to DTS on the fly. I'm sure one exist but I doubt it would be a consumer card. I could be wrong about all this but I don't think so.

Big difference between DTS and Just Multichannel Dolby Digital Too.

I was using the following setting for windows 7 (x64) for past 1+ year, whenever I wanted to use the D2X's DTS or Dolby Upmixing for my 6 channel analogue output. Though with windows 8 driver release this issue is fixed in the new BETA driver released for ASUS Xonar D2X.

Control Panel ---> Hardware and Sound --> Manage audio devices

Double Click the desired sound device (sound card) ---> Click the advanced Tab

Change The Default Format to "16Bit, 44100 Hz (CD Quality)" --- Apply.

Now turn on the dolby or dts upmixing... DONE
