how to open com port 1 to 4 windows 7 starter

hi, how do I open com port 1 , its windows 7 starter which is different from windows 7, im trying to use a lead that plugs into my usb but it says "com port 1 does not exist" "interface not found" , i got it working before but cant remember how to do it, when opening device manager theres no options for com ports like on widows 7.


please help its driving me insane- as you may have guessed i'm not great with computers, many thanks

Its more likely that the computer has no COM ports thus you will need a USB to Serial adapter.

i did it before but cant remember how, think it was along the lines of .start menu. right click computer.manage- and cant think what i did then, i had to select which port i wanted to open, it can defintly be done as i did it before on the same notebook (i recently cleared my c drive to default so all settings have gone back)

could really do with some help, it not showing ports com&lpt in the device manager, read this can be turned on in bios? how do i do that? simple steps needed please

A com port is usually a serial port but can also be designated to a modem. Does your laptop have a serial port or a phone jack for a dial up modem? If it has neither that's why there are no com ports shown in device manager. What device is it you are connecting to your USB port. Also what is or where is the "com port 1 does not exist" "interface not found" message being displayed?
