How to open embedded pictures in posts.

I'd be very grateful if anyone can tell me how to embed a picture in a post so that it can be opened and enlarged in a sub-window of the main web page?

I know how to add picutres using an upload progrm like TinyPic or add them as an attachment, but how do you get them to open in a separate window?

This is an attachment from my desktop of a jpeg, but it won't open so I can enlarge it.

I had been able to add a jpeg image as an attachment or via a link to an upload web site. However, my problem was that when I clicked on the image in my post it wouldn't open in a separate window. I have now resolved this issue.

The problem was all about the size of the image put in the post.

If the original image is small, and fits the standard size allowed for images in posts, when inserted as an attachment in a post and clicked with the mouse it will not open in a separate window as a larger image, because it's already full size.

However, if the original image is larger than the standard size allowed for images in posts, when inserted as an attachment in a post it will be auto shrunk to the standard image size allowed in posts. If this shrunken image in the post is now clicked with the mouse, it will open in a separate window in it's original large size.

The image I had attached in my post came from another post. I had copied it from that post by right clicking and saving as picture. When I then attached this picture in my post and clicked it, it wouldn't open in a separate window to show it in large size because it was already shown as it's original full size as I'd copied it.

However, when this saved image on my desktop was doubled in size using Microsoft Picture Manager, and then added as an attachment, it was shown in the post as a shrunken version. This image when clicked would then open in a separate window in it's larger full size.

This 1st attachment shown below is the one saved from the picture in the post. When clicked it won't open in another window because it's already full size.

This 2nd attachment is the same picture doubled in size, but when attached is auto shrunk to standard post size. When clicked with the mouse it opens in a separate window in original full size.

Good to hear you found the reason for your issue. One tip: do not resize your screenshots. Save it as it is and if you edit it, be sure to maintain the resolution. Your original example image says it is 1004 * 480. As such it would react precisely as you found out: showing a bit smaller thumbnail and enlarged when clicked.

There was one other thing I couldn't work out and what you said about the resolution is the answer.

When I right clicked the image in a post, and saved it as a picture, all I did was take a snapshot of that small image. So when I enlarged it, it was blurred, because it didn't have the same resolution as the original full size pic. That's different to copying an image and then shrinking it to fit on the post as a thumbnail, so when it's enlarged you get back to the original size and resolution.

What I did would be like taking a snapshot of something seen through a telescope. When you enlarge it, it would be blurred, as distinct from using the telescope to zoom in on the image, so the image retains it's original resolution.

I think I've stated that correctly, but please tell me if I'm wrong?

You are right. Quite a many websites like forums and news sites use a thumbnail placed in a placeholder in the article or post. Clicking this placeholder then gives you original image in original resolution.

If you right click the image (thumbnail) in placeholder and save it, you save this thumbnail. To save image in original resolution, you have to first open it and only then save.

Brilliant! That's what I should have done when I originally saved the image from another person's post; ie opened it in original size, right clicked and saved to desktop, then put the saved original size image in my post.

I just thought of a possible easier way which I've done as an experiment with your image. I highlighted your image and right clicked and copied, then pasted in this reply, as seen below; and it worked! It retained all it's properties as a thumbnail, and when clicked opens to full size. One good idea leads to another, hey!

Interesting and informative this Also, I think the browsers might handle images differently? I like the way Firefox copes with them much more than IE (which I despise as a browser anyway, lol).
