How to open two Excel sheets in their own window

I know before we upgraded, I could open two separate excel files in their own windows, so I can compare, etc without switching back and forth.

I have the newest MSO and running Windows 7 Home Premium.

I am guessing you have MS Office 2010. I don't have that version but try this. Open two spreadsheets, click on "Window" and you will see "Compare Side By Side". That will put both of them on the screen at one time.

Yeah I don't get those options. Either I'm clicking on the wrong thing (I'm sure I'm not - but who knows, blond moments happen to everyone:sarc I don't get those options popping up.

I get side by side View in the same window, but I may as well cycle to looking at one at a time, since they do everything in unison. I'll take a mini vid of all the options it gives me, but I do not get those options as well /facepalm. I'm in the office at the crack of dawn tomorrow.

Question

Are you trying to open two instances of the same spreadsheet? If so I would make a copy of the spreadsheet (with a different name) and then open the original and then open the copy.

So, it looks like you found the side by side button - but it is not exactly what you had hoped for. You can turn off the "do everything in unison" feature with just one click.

It also sounds like you have a different layout to your tool bars since you said that you don't see the options mentioned in this post (http://www.sevenforums.com/microsof...cel-spreadsheets-windows-7-a.html#post1995481). A mini video of what you do see would be great.

In the mean time, here is a video for turning on Side by Side and then turning off Synchronous Scrolling. This is from a fresh install of Office 2010 - so the tool bars should be normal.

Note: two spreadsheets are selected on the desktop before the video starts. Right clicking and selecting open - opens them both. You might want to watch the videos in full screen mode and at the highest resolution; otherwise, the tool tips might be hard to read.




And here is a video of how to just arrange windows - I picked vertical, you might want horizontal. Notice near the end that I arrange them again because I wanted book1 on the left. The spreadsheet that is selected when you arrange them will be placed on the left of the vertical view and on top in horizontal arrangements.




And finally, here is how to do this manually:
