How to Override Group Policy Preventing Access to USB Ports

Hello:

Once a month, I backup my laptop's files to an external hard drive. But, about three months ago, my company enabled Group Policy to where none of us employees are able to plug external hard drives into our USB ports.

Is there a way of overriding this policy?

If not, is there a way that I can find the local administrator password, so that I can login without being on the domain, plug in my external hard drive, and back up my files?

I am afraid that this forum cannot help you to override your Company's/administrator's policy. That is also my policy .

I'm afraid that there isn't anything that can be done. See the group policies are being pushed from a server so even if you have access to change the setting on the laptop the server would just change it again. If you don't have admin access on the laptop then there isn't even anything that you can do temporarily. On top of that we can't help you without breaking the forum rules (which can get us banned). You have to consider that the laptop isn't your computer. Perhaps if you talk to your manager he can get you an exception but he has to follow your company's policies.

I am afraid you are being the spoiled little brat here. You are asking others to help you perpetrate an offense against your company's policies, then throw a tissy fit when no one will join your conspiracy.

Disabling USB ports in such a manner is typically enabled because some careless employee attached an infected device to one of the computers, which then infected the computer and possibly the network.

You need to talk to your supervisor. I am sure they would be very interested in what you are doing.

I wouldn't worry about backup. It's probably done as soon as you log in to the companies network.
