How to prevent laptop using a dead dedicated GC

Hello!
So I recently had a loss.jpg and now I'm struggling to make my laptop work on integrated GC.
What happens is I have to delete the graphics card and it's driver in safe mode, but then when I boot the system in normal mode Windows automatically starts to install the drivers for it (and proceeds to try and switch to it in the process which freezes the whole system) despite the fact that I set it to never automatically install the drivers. I can't set group restrictions in Home Version. I did set the power plan to economy but it still tries to activate radeon card once I log into my account.
Is there a way to actually permanently delete the GC or actually prevent W from installing the drivers? It's driving me crazy, I tell it not to do something and it still does it, like wtf is this??:picnic::banghead:

Hi

had a look at the homepage for your model, theres a set of drivers for SWITCHABLE graphics, is it installed?####

note it might not be Windows trying to install the driver, but your HP installed system updater

Try going intro BIOS to turn off the card permanently.

From the manual.

To start Setup Utility, follow these steps:
1. Turn on or restart the computer, and then press esc while the “Press the ESC key for Startup Menu”
message is displayed at the bottom of the screen.
2. Press f10 to enter Setup Utility.

Hi CupOfRedTea,
Device Manager, disable graphics card.
How to disable a video card

Bill

Yeah, I did that too, it doesn't care, as soon as I boot the normal mode it starts installing the drivers for it:huh:

The BIOS settings I have are very limited, the only thing I can do is run memtest, chkdsk, and choose boot order, that's it. Maybe there's some secret way of getting to advanced settings but I couldn't manage to find that

Yeah I have the package (AMD, Intel, Audio drivers) that came with the model, installed the Intel and audio ones after DDU wipe I did but the AMD driver in the installation process switches the card on and off a few times, so as soon as it does that the system just freezes.

note it might not be Windows trying to install the driver, but your HP installed system updater
The what now? It looks like a standart Windows installation, like when u plug a mouse or usb stick etc... Unless it's an app that overrides the settings? I'll look into that, thx

Also sort of related question: how do I tell if I have a faulty GPU or VRAM? May or may not attempt a reflow:rolleyes:

I think the "SWITCHABLE" feature is controlled by Catalyst Control Centre (CCC) or Crimson Software. So, it makes sense that, if you disable the AMD driver, as Snick has suggested, but then uninstall the CCC/Crimson software from Programs and Features, before re-boot the computer.
