How to prevent media extender from deleting files?

I have been looking around for a while now and I can't find any way to achieve this.

I have tried sharing the file in read only with the mce but it can still delete them.

Does anyone know if this is possible?

EDIT: sharing the file in read only and rebooting both the media center pc and the extender fixed the problem

Not to necro a month-old thread, but I am trying to figure out this exact same question but I have no clue where to set "read-only". WMC doesn't seem to have any permissions setting within it that I can find...

In Windows, read/write permissions are done by file or folder. Each sub-folder is considered to have a parent/child relationship as are files in folders. The parent can propogate all permissions to sub-folders and files or not.

Certain situations set up default conditions, such as sharing locally or sharing on a network. The Network Control Panel item is used by most to do basic sharing.

You can set Read/Write atrributes for folders and files in many ways. There are command line options in the command editor (the artist formally known as DOS), or using the GUI, you can right click on a folder or file and set permissions.

You must be an administrator to set permissions for files or folders of others users. Users can set some permissions on their own files.

These are the basic steps for home users. Those with the Pro or Ultimate editions can use local and group policy settings also.

You can 'play' with these settings by creating a folder or two and adding some randomly copied files, like a few pictures, etc. while reading up more on this at the source, Microsoft Technet.
