how to prioritize internet usage!

Hello,
i am downloading files 24/7 because of my line of work.
the thing is many times i need to browse sites without stopping
the download: so for some time now i use the speed limit in my download
manager; but unfortunately a lot of time i forget to but the speed to full win i
finish, & when i get back to work after few hours i see that i didn't download many data.

is there a way that gives my browser ( FireFox OR Chrome ) the ability to steal the speed from the download manager while i am using it, & once i stop my work in it ( even while the browser is opened ) gives the download manager all the internet speed back?

No trouble and thank you for asking. I have a limited amount of knowledge when it comes to add-ons for those browsers, so I won't be able to suggest anything on that front. It is my understanding that once you are done browsing the internet, all of that bandwidth will automatically travel over to your download, unless perhaps the page keeps refreshing?

• :tip:I do not in any way intend to convince you to use Internet Explorer 9, but in my experience, it works amazingly well, and you are even able to close all windows (except for the download window) and the downloads will continue. You might try it just once and see if your download speed "increases". Is there any noticeable difference between chrome and firefox in their download speeds?

• :note:You can also call up your ISP and upgrade your service in order to receive more bandwidth. It may cost a llittle more per month, but it is worth looking into if you are serious about getting more download speed.

regarding your suggestions:-
1. Browser: the company policy restrict me of using these browser download mangers,
in my case i am only able to use JDownloader for direct download & uTorrent for torrents.
2. ISP: my department get only limited bandwidth regarding the company.

PS: i asked our IT department the only thing i got; that there is away but i have to do it in my knowledge!!!

Oh! I know you wrote that bit about your line of work, but I thought it was a home computer still. My bad. Your IT department sounds like a department of jerks. you might look around for download manger apps, unless you aren't allowed to use them. Otherwise, someone else may have to step in here and give you some advice, as I am all out, considering your predicament. Good luck, however!

I don't think that we can help you with your concern just like DustSailor has already said.
You have to respect your company policy. Bypassing the network protocols is not a cool thing to do and you might get into trouble. Office hours need be utilize properly.

Wonder how much CPU the Download Manager is using? I doubt this will really work, but it is an easy try. In Windows Task Manager, just reduce the CPU priority of the download manager. If the Downloader is really humping, maybe it is using the CPU enough so that lowering its CPU priority (and giving more CPU priority to the browser) will reduce its transfer ability, and leave your browser with the extra bandwidth. Of course, it could, I suppose break the downloader? I have not actually tried this, use at your own risk!
