Solved How To Protect An Open Window From Easy Closing

Hello, all—

I use TeamViewer frequently to assist others, but too often when I click to close an open, maximized window on the remote PC, I inadvertently click the Close "X" of the open, maximized TeamViewer window...which closes the session and breaks the connection. (I know that care will prevent the problem...but the Close "X" icons of a maximized window inside another window are one directly below the other.)

Is there any Windows 7 option/add-on/util that can require me to do something extra—beyond just clicking the Close "X"—to close a specific open window on my PC? (E.g., set a window so that it requires Ctl+click to close.)

Have searched the forums and Web at large, w/o success. Thx in advance for any ideas.

Shen

LOL, that happens to me as well. Though I don't need to use it frequently.

Bit annoying, don't know offhand any way round it..

That is annoying, I have been right clicking on the icon in the taskbar of the one I want closed, which brings up the jumplist.

Then I just close window from there.

Thx for the replies, Brink and Derekimo. Don't want to seem ungrateful, but...

Decades of "muscle memory" are hard to offset by adopting a completely new way to close a window. (Click in uppper RH corner to close happens without really thinking about it.) What I'm needing is a way to keep my hand from doing in this one specific situation what it has done countless times over the decades. ::shrug::

Have been surprised to see that no one has raised the issue in the TeamViewer forums. SIW2's reply above was a relief to see!

No worries. The caption buttons include the minimize, maximize, and X buttons at the upper right corner of a window. Making them larger could help to not click the wrong one by mistake.

A other option would be to use a custom theme on 1 of the PCs so the close button has another color.

Let me know.

Problem solved...for TeamViewer

Thx for all the suggestions—I'm much obliged.

I thought that maybe Win7's "full screen" option—F11—would work out...but it turns out that the window that Team Viewer creates doesn't respond to F11.

However, I've now realized that TeamViewer's "full screen" option, which is available in the hangy-downy submenu near the top right of a TeamViewer session window, solves my problem. Clicking to employ that mode takes out all the artifacts of the host PC's environment, including the three icons in the upper corner of the screen. Clicking again toggles the host's artifacts. I haven't discovered a keystroke combo for that, but I can live with using a single mouse click.

Now all I need to do is train myself to use TeamViewer's "full screen" mode so it's not necessary to curse the darkness and ask the remote user to restart TeamViewer. (Having to ask for a restart sorta tarnishes the "guru" image!)

Side note for Brink (Shawn): Changing caption button size interacted with icon size in the taskbar on my Win7 Home (SP-ed and current) installation...making that not a completely desirable approach.

Am still wondering if there's a way to cause an open window to require something more than a simple click to close.

Best to all.

Shenzie
