How to read data from a faulty HDD

Well, i didn't plug in the data cable when booted, because I'm afraid to screw up something else in the system. I must get at lest 2-3 confirmations that this is possible to perform.
Don't get this personal, but i really don't have room for mistakes :huh:

Here are some copies of posts that respond to a similar problem :
"It sounds strange, but a friend of mine had trouble getting his drive to spin up. He put it in the freezer, hooked it to his computer and its reached running speed. Once it did this there was no problem and he copied 500+ gigs off it. I dont know the nature of your crash. Just thought I would throw that out there."

"Depending on the type of problem, you may not be able to easily access the crashed HDD.

Though the error makes it sound like the problem is the interface port, not the HDD.

If SATA:
Unplug the crashed HDD, then boot up. While Windows is operating, plug in the crashed HDD into a different SATA port.

If IDE:
Get an IDE to SATA adapter (if your motherboard has SATA ports) or an external hard drive enclosure and hook it up after boot that way."

Did that already ...
1st, i booted up with my OS hard drive, then i connected my bad drive as mmkarimi suggested. Every 30-40 seconds, my screen freezes for 15 seconds and it's been doing that since i booted up.
The CPU is running @ 3-15 % so as GPU . My computer doesn't register the drive, so as HDsentinel and device manager. How can i "register" the drive to windows???

have u tried in a diffrent pc?

have you got an external + powered hdd lying around, you could use that as a temporary docking station

As mentioned before (twice ), I don't have a external rack or a sata-usb cable... All my other PCs have ATA connectors...
The question is how can i "register" the unrecognized hard drive to windows?!?!?! :shock:

Boot from partition wizard bootable CD. It can see the drive ... it's 149GB but all unallocated, so no partitions on it?
If so do this How to perform lost partition recovery and deleted partition recovery under Windows? Partition Recovery Help.
First try "quick scan". Does it find partition(s)? Ignore partitions which are very small about 3MB. Recover the real big partitions. Post results.

Do you know how may partitions were on that faulty disk? Tell me

After that try How to perform disk surface test with partition manager software - Partition Wizard? to see it is a good disk

Well i wouldn't like to go over the tread 3 times, just go read the problem from the begining, you will the see what has been done and why.
How can i check if the drive is registered in the BIOS when i had to jump start the drive connecting it to the pc while working??
That was the only way to boot up with that drive connected parallel with my Win7 drive...

Does it see the disk. I assume it's number 1.

Of course replace # with rela disk number.
Works? Only do it if you want to destroy EVERYTHING on disk. All partitions and files are gone forever

sorry for the confusion,

try disconnecting your main drive and then put your windows instalation into the cd drive, is the faulty hdd detected?

report back, then

remove the windows instalation disk and put in your partition wizard cd/usb and boot from it, is the drive also detected here?

If partition wizard can't recover the partition(s) and surface scan retruns no errors (let it only check first few GB, so let it run 10 minutes)

• initialize MBR (if not yet MBR) How to Initialize Disk to MBR Disk with partition manager? Partition Wizard Video Help.

• apply the changes

Be sure you select the correct disk!!!

Will do as you say. But not now, because i am running partition recovery wizard, and for 10 minuets it hassdon only 0% so that means it will be left over the night. I will delete all of the data after the test is done. Now the bad hdd isn't appearing as unallocated, but as a logical type, and bad disk...

it took me 9.6 hours for it to complete on my 1tb disk

Do you mean it found a logical partition? Is it type NTFS? What's the size?
