How to recover windows that were open if power cuts out

With Vista if the machines power is suddenly cut, it can resume to where you were (Windows open and all, exact same state). What is this called and how do I activate it in Windows 7 PLEASE? I didnt know where else to post this thread sorry.

Are you referring to the sleep or hibernate feature? Do you mean return to the same state if power is cut while you are working? I do not know of a feature that you can return to an unsaved point, if power is cut.

I think he is referring to a power failure or the machine becoming unplugged.

Yeah power failure or battery being taken out (of laptop) while unplugged. Windows would resume with everything I had open, open already like it never even shut down.

But since you're using a Laptop, I would assume that when power is cut, your laptop goes to an immediate sleep (or most likely Hybrid Sleep/Hibernate) mode with your battery. I would assume that you have a faulty battery since it should give you an uninterruptable power supply. Then when you plug it back in, your PC would resume as normal.

I guess it's not working now since either you have:
*A completely failed battery
*Different power settings

If you're really thinking that it's actually recovering your state, then I have yet to see a PC resume everything like "BOOM" from a sudden power failure. Let's assume that it is indeed feasable. This would require the OS to save its state and basically EVERYTHING in HDD rather than RAM, which would surely make your computer run very (very times ten) slow.

There was a post months ago, about a Windows 7 "new feature", that allowed the user to resume gaming from where he left off, even though the computer had been switched off, and surprise surprise, they had just been hibernating.

No computer can be turned off fully, and resume how you left it.

Sometimes I keep reminders open (BT BUDDY REMINDER) for awhile, and when we lose power I have no idea what reminders were open. Normally Id be able to just check the logs (of past reminders) but sometimes I keep them open so long I can never be sure I found the reminder again without thoroughly searching through tons of reminders. I cant really think of another way to be safe from this. Maybe a very LIGHT program that stays open and somehow saves open reminders. Actually a feature can probably easily be programmed to fix my "problem," I'm afraid to switch reminder buddies though because of how stable/reliable this one has always been.

You can do the same in 7 has you were obviously doing in Vista, put it to sleep or hibernate, that way you can resume from where you left off.

nahh, im on a desktop worrying about power outages killing my reminders (the laptop is a friends, which is where i got the idea of the feature)

Considering it's a Windows feature, you've got it on your desktop PC.

I use an APC UPS with APC Powerchute software and it will run my system for approx 17min. If unattended at the 5min left mark it tells the computer to do a shutdown. If I am available I can Hibernate before the time limit. Works great for those 5sec power hits.

The only solution that I know is a UPS. Here in the lightening capital of the US, a UPS is a must.

yeah Ill have to consider something like that.

my problem is pretty minor though actually to do that.

i just need this buddy reminder program to recognize which ads are open and maybe, yeah that would be easy as hell for the software developer to code. make it so that the reminders, once activated turn gray and then once closed turn yellow or w/e
