How to remove cj.dotomi virus

I have a Windows 7 PC running Kaspersky Internet Security 2014 software, which generally has been effective. In recent weeks however, I have discovered that my PC has been infected by the Cj.dotomi virus. I have had about 5 email exchanges with the Kaspersky tech staff (apparently only email support is provided free), suggesting various series of actions, but none have resolved the problem. I have also searched on the Web and tried various recommended manual approaches--also unsuccessful. There is almost always some associated "automatic" software package solution being promoted, but I have been unwilling to take the risk of further messing up my PC. Has anyone been able to remove Cj.dotomi manually or by using specific anti-virus software? If yes, please advise. If Norton or some other mainstream anti-virus software package will resolve this problem, I am open to switching!

Hello Mochina,

Wow, I'm surprised that Malwaretips doesn't have a solution on their website regarding this issue.

Please can you download and install the following programs, and run a full scan with them:
Malwarebytes | Free Anti-Malware & Internet Security Software
HitmanPro 3 - SurfRight
AdwCleaner Download
Junkware Removal Tool Download

Malwarebytes will product a log, please can you upload it to here? Navigate to: C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\Logs and upload the logs to here, which have todays date.

Instructions for running Hitman Pro:
After opening Hitman Pro, select next. Click 'no, I only want to perform a one-time scan to check this computer' and select next. It will then scan your computer. After it's finished scanning, click next and click activate free licence, which is a free-trial of it for 30 days.

Thank you,
VinnyBuxton

Hi there.

I would not advocate ANY AV cleaning tool -- how could you possibly guarantee it's done its job - especially if the system its running on is faulty / virus ridden in the first place. Even if the AV tool told you the computer was clean - could you really believe it was telling the truth -- the Virus could easily interfere with the cleansing program anyway --it's a VIRUS - that's what they do -- they kill things designed to kill them -- same as in Biology too.-- IMO it's like asking the FOX to guard the HENHOUSE.

Either completely re-install windows again from scratch or restore a clean backup image -- if you haven't got a clean backup image why on earth not -- doesn't take long to make one.

Incidentally always keep OS and pgms separate (on own HDD or partition) to your private data -- that way restoring an OS won't mean you have to restore your data as well.

Taking a backup image with products like Free Macrium doesn't take long and should be done regularly as a matter of course. I'm still amazed how many people don't do this regularly -- nightly should be an ideal and certainly before downloading anything from a torrent site etc.

Cheers
jimbo

Hi @Yard Dog

I still think the best way is to re-install windows again or better restore a clean image from a backup --then you can have 100% confidence that your machine is CLEAN. A complete OS recovery even on a slowish system shouldn't take more than 30 mins --I'll bet any of the "experts" messing around with AV removal and running diagnostics will take LONGER than 30 mins to ensure the job is done properly - and even then I'd trust my method over theirs any day. !!!

(Still I'm only an Old fashioned Engineer so what do I know !).

Cheers

I agree with you.. why I don't mess with malware programs myself.. but. for ones who are experts. I will defer to them . of course.. I prefer to surf the internet wisely and avoid malware myself..

Thank you, Vinny, Yard Dog, Jimbo for your advice and suggestions. I'll need to think these options over, but I think re-installing Windows is probably the safest course of action.
