How to Remove 'Open With' Options -Safely?

How do you remove 'Open With' options in a safe way?

Mainly I’m talking about jpegs but I’d image the steps apply to any ‘open with’ item. I have Window Picture Viewer as the default program to open jpegs, and that’s what I want.

However, I often have need to open a jpeg in a photo editor or other utility but my ‘open with’ list is so full of stuff I don’t use, there’s no room for another option. For example, I’m never going to use a browser to open one, nor do I need the hand full of printer options, like ‘open’ photo book and the like.

By ‘safely,’ I mean how do I revert back to a specific ‘open with’ option if I delete one in error?

You can use this to selectively enable/ disable entries. Note: Windows Photo Viewer entry is "photoviewer.dll" but the others should be straightforward.

I usually don't review tutorials , I go by Brink's title for them and that's how I posted the link for you, but in review of Open with - Clean Up and Remove Programs I found it uses Nir Sofer's OpenWithView the link supplied by Callender, imagine that!

Then in review of the second one: Open with - Add Program I found the link for Ramesh Srinivasan in Option Two points to a 404 Not Found error, if you still want to use Ramesh's utility use the link in Option Two #1: Registering programs with the "Open With" dialog it will take you to the utility's page on Ramesh's site.
