How To Remove Win 7 Desktop Icon Shadows

Hi:

Does anyone know how to remove the square shadows behind Win 7 desktop icons?

I removed the check beside "Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop" in te Visual Effects Tab, but this did not remove the square shadows behind the icons or resolve thsis issue.

If anyone has a solution I would be most appreciatve.

I bet there is someone out in cyberspace that knows how to do this. It's to much of an annoyance for someone not to solve, including Microsoft if necessary.

Seems like I read somewhere that ths issue was brought up during the testing phase of Win 7.

Guess that I'll just keep hoping and thanks for your reply.

Try this, you have at least a 50% chance of success. Go to desktop right click, go to view, try the different sizes small medium and large. Wish you luck. But hey, if you are sucessful, dont forget us. Let us know so others benefit, too.

You could also check performance options and select for 'best appearance' ....

Are u referring to the highlighted square when you click an icon--the graphic that indicates the icon is selected? There's also the graphic that appears around an icon when u hover over it--that one is dimmer. Without doing either, I see no shadows behind my desktop icons.

Would you please send me detail instructions as to how you attached the thumbnail of the Performance Options screen, as I have a surprise to send all of you.

I have found a solution for removing the desktop icon shadows and would like to include the thumbnail in my email that explains the solution.

Hi Guys:

I asked Jaycee to send me how he included his attached tumbnail which displayed the Performance Options screen, but have not heard back from him. Hopefully I will, as I would like to know how he did this.

Anyway the solution to removing the desktop icon shadows is to bring up the Performance Options screen and remove the check from the last item listed "Use visual styles on windows and buttons" then click on Apply and OK. This will change the overall settings to Custom.

However, there are some side affects of using this option which removes desktop icon shadows. It changes your Taskbar back to an XP style Taskbar and also changes any customized Icon, Menu and other Advanced appearance settings back to Default. Any settings that you had previously changed will have to be reaccomplished.

When you open Internet Explorer it looks very similar in color etc that it did with XP which now is easier to read than Win 7 I feel. Each person will just have to play around with the Advanced appearance settings and select those they like best.

So far I am delighted with the settings I now have and also not having the desktop icon shadows.

go to search by start button. type snipping tool. click on it. follow directions. You can take a picture of any screen, including desktop. Enjoy you new OS. I am I really prefer it over Vista.

Hi ColTom2, Jacee (me) is a female

I took a snip of the open window, then I "save as" in my Pictures. When I clicked on Reply .... in the box there is a little 'paper clip' up by the smilies. Click on that, then browse to the picture, copy and paste it in the box, then click on 'upload'.
When you can see the attached icon below the upload button, just post your reply.

NOTHING is worth losing aero! I even have aero on my Acer netbook, despite the win 7 upgrade advisor telling me it wouldn't work on it. LOL! so much for redmond's software knowing fully what's going on.
