How to set up home network to access everything on computers

Hi guys,

Hope someone can help me on this. I've got two computers, one with Windows 7 Home Pro and a new computer with Windows 7 Ultimate.
I'm trying to set up a network so that I can access everything on both computers. The newer computer with Ultimate on it has a SSD drive for my operating system and programs and an internal drive for storage. I need to be able to access the storage drive with the computer with Home Pro on it. Right now the only thing I can access is my public folder on the main drive. The storage drive (e) is showing up in the network but when I click on it I get a message that I do not have perimssion to view it. I've tried every suggestion that I can find on how to fix this nothing works.
On the older computer with Home Pro on it I'm getting a "There is a second homegroup on this computer would you like to join it?" message. I can't figure out how it got there, how to view it, how to delete it, or even how to join it as all passwords I have do not work.

Hello to a Buckeye Gal,

Chev65 is probably one of our most knowledgable members on networking.

I don't use "homegroups" because I have differenet versions of Windows running on my networks. (98, XP, Vista, Win7). I always use business type networks. You have to make sure you get the sharing right on each HD & folders that you want shared on the network.

For the drive access you typically need to go into the Security tab of the drive and make some adjustments there. The link below shows you how. I'm not completely sure why you can't seem to even access this drive in the first place but you may need to take ownership of the C:>Users folder or set up another User account with the same User name and password as the one used when you set up the storage drive.

As for the Homegroup error message, that says there being two Homegroups etc. That is a new one on me although it's typical for it to say that you can't leave or join the Homegroup. In any event, once the Homegroup is messed up it's best to leave the Homegroup from all machines then set up a new one. If you can't leave or join the Homegroup then I have some fixes for that particular problem.

Thank you, I've applied the sharing adjustments and will check to see if this helps when I get on the other computer. I would think it would. I had everyone applied under the sharing tab but not the Security. If that doesn't work I'll take ownership, although I may need to contact the guy who built my machine to do that.
