Hi,

I have a very perplexing start up problem. The browser “Safari” has started opening every time I boot and I cannot find a way to disable !!
My system is a desktop WINDOWS 7 Pro (64 bit). I did install Safari about a year ago and have used it a few times by manually starting (clicking on the Safari.exe file).

About two weeks ago Safari stated loading at each boot. As far as I know, I did not change any Safari settings. I have looked at all the usual places msconfig, start up folders, my start up application (Start Up Cop Pro 6), an internet search, etc. I have been unable to find any information about Safari settings to enable Safari to load at Windows boot.

Obviously, I am not looking in the right place, because Safari opens at every boot. I did temporarily rename “Safari.exe” to “SafariXXX.exe” –which stopped the Safari opening at boot.

Does anyone know the program name/link and where it is located, or trouble shooting tips to find the source that is causing Safari to load at Win 7 boot?

Thanks for your help.

Hello,
Upon reading the title, I immediately thought about suggesting Run>MSConfig>Startup, but I see that's been covered.
Maybe it is in a start-up folder under public settings and not you own personal settings. I have had multiple instances of something I wanted at start-up appear twice: once because I added it to the startup folder, and another, because it installed itself into the public start-up folder. Check: (Right click) All Programs (start) > Open all users... and so on to startup folder.
Have you tried doing a clean install of safari?
Regards-

Apple no longer supports Safari on Windows : this is from Wikipedia.

"A version of Safari for the Microsoft Windows operating system was first released on June 11, 2007,[4] and supported Windows XP Service Pack 2, or later,[5] but it has been discontinued.[6] Safari 5.1.7, released on May 9, 2012, is the last version available for Windows "
I'd advise you to uninstall it.

Maybe your problem is related to the Bonjour service,
You are being redirected...

stve,

(sorry for the delay in responding, problems beyond my control) You suggested removing Safari, which I would like to do. But how?

I went to the Control panel, programs and features; there is no Safari program listed. I also have an uninstaller program ( Smarty uninstaller); it does not list Safari. I read your referenced article and did a search of my C:\ for mDNSResponder.exe, mdnsNSP.dll and Bonjour; none were found. I looked through the folder that Safari starts from for an "uninstall" program but did not find one.
So, what am I missing? Is there some magic way to uninstall Safari from Windows 7?

Thanks

Sometimes when a program does not sow up to un install, you simply install it again and you will have a windows pop up and say

Modify
Repair
Uninstall

See if that will work.

What about Start > All Programs if you scroll down to Safari is there no option to uninstall it if you click on it`s folder ?

Best Answer from yahoo: If it is not working by going to the Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel then
Just drag it to the trash.
That is how you uninstall programs on a Macintosh (Safari is Apple Software of course).

Is this really helping them? Maybe...

Hi, A big THANKS to AddRAM -- his suggestion led to solving my Safari problem. Safari is no more!!
For future reference, here are the steps to solving the problem.

I did some searching on my C drive for the word "Safari" ( entered without the quotes). Among the several entries found, this one led to the solution:

C:\ProgramData\Apple Computer\Installer Cache\Safari 5.34.57.2 The folder contained 2 files, Safari.msi and SetupAdmin.exe. Extension .msi is an installer type of file.

I double clicked on Safari.msi and a screen opened with two choices: Repair or Remove.
Clicked on Remove, answered YES to "Do you want to completely remove Safari?"
Couple of minutes later, screen pops up "Safari has been successfully uninstalled from your computer."
Also a check showed the Safari 5.34.57.2 was now empty (the folder was still present)
Did a reboot and Safari did not start at reboot!!

THANKS AGAIN to AddRAM
