Hi there

I am trying to stream video files from an external hard drive across my network to a blu ray player. the player is connected to the router through Ethernet.

The computer is connected via wireless. and the hard drive is connected via usb to the laptop.

Can anybody help with the best way to do this please?

BLu ray player is a Sony bdp s370
Laptop is an acer 575z (I think) running windows 7 home premium.

Thank you in advance for any help.

I have no idea if it'll work for your situation but, I'm using TVersity to stream from my PC to my PlayStation 3 and XBox 360.

This machine was given to me when my dad bought a new computer. I keep throwing upgrades at it and it keeps on ticking. Think I've done everything to it that can be done outside a PSU upgrade so I can run an even BETTER GPU.
first--make sure your BluRay is connected to the network--see the manual.
second--make sure hard drive with videos is 'shared'
--you should see your computer as an icon to choose from on your blu ray player when you turn it on (assuming your network connection is active)-there will be many choices if it's networked properly (among them Hulu Plus, Amazon on demand, netflix, Video Unlimited, YouTube, etc, etc)see attached pic

note: wireless and/or USB is not very reliable for streaming--try hard wiring the laptop to the router and copying the videos to the laptop hard drive

It really depends alot on how your Hardware is setup, and the type of files you want to stream.

-TVersity did OK for me, but I too had a few issues with it on my setup. It wanted to stream to my TV as a PS3, and transcode on the fly, although it wasnt needed.

-You also may have got a copy of Nero Media Home Essentials. If so, it was designed to work with it so it might be a better option.

-Another Option is Windows Media Player itself.

Open Windows Media Player.
Click the Streaming Tab at the top, and Turn Media Streaming On.

This works well for the most part, but I had some issues with this as well on my set up. It can be picky at times.

For example, I get a Invalid File error attempting to stream a MP4 file with H264/AC3 inside (or the file will not even be recognized). Even though the TV itself supports these codecs and more.
Switching to a MKV container may help if you have a similar issue with it.

Oh, and I agree. You really want to avoid a wirless connection for streaming if you can.

pretty sure the s370 can only stream movies from places on the net like netflix etc.

if you have a Hdmi out on your laptop just use that. easier than trying the hard way.

oh and that player has to use sony's usb wifi adapter only. that's why I went with the S580. wifi is built in.

Hi,

I use Cinema_Box from windows store to catalogue and stream all of my media. If your device DLNA compliant then the app will pick this up.

Personally I don't stream to a DvD player but I do stream to an Xbox One and a Smart TV via the wireless connection at home. My media is store on a NAS drive and ive never had any issues with audio or video stream.

Great app for £2.49
