Solved How to switch from Intel HD Graphics 3000 to NVIDIA GEFORCE 680

Hi there!
After my computer (a desktop not a laptop) was repaired after some issues on it I tried to play some games (Rome 2 Total War and some other) and encountered some delays when trying to play them. When I looked into it I discovered that the games used Intel HD Graphics 3000 instead of Nvidia Geforce gtx 680. So I tried to switch from Intel to NVIDIA. After reading some articles on this in the internet I deactivated the Intel graphics card in the device manager hoping that it would automatically switch to the other graphics card the NVIDIA card this way. But this did not happen instead the screen turned black and I´m now not able to even get to Windows or my BIOS settings. How can I fix this? Do I first have to reactivate Intel before I can switch to NVIDIA and if so how or is there a possibility to directly acces NVIDIA instead?

Normally, Windows uses whichever video is detected by the BIOS (and if the BIOS detects a video card usually it will switch to that card).

Since this was serviced, check the power connection to the Video card (if it has one). Could be it was disconnected by the service tech during service and was not reconnected. If the card is still installed, the PCIe power connection is needed or it will not be detected or work.

Also, if you switch Video from the internal to a separate video card, you must physically switch the Monitor connection to the Video card.

You don`t have to switch or deactivate anything in windows, you just plug your monitor cable into the 680.

It can not use the cpu graphics if you are plugged into the 680.

Now I´ve been to a repair guy and he fixed the screen. Strangely, though when he started Rome 2 Total War Nvidia Geforce was set as graphics card not Intel while now that I got back from him started Rome 2 Total War and it is still Intel HD. I tried to access the NVIDIA control panel both from my Windows screen and from the Windows control panel but wasn´t able to. It only tells me that Nvidia screen settings are not available and that I´m right now not using a screen connected to an Nvidia GPU unit.
Any ideas how to solve this?

Exactly right.

You´re right after experimenting a little with the cables it finally works.

That`s because you were still connected to the motherboard graphics port, after you connected to the 680 it worked.
