Hi
I've mistakenly installed windows 7 on F drive while having windows vista on C drive. I think I didn't upgrade it because i needed service pack 1 on windows vista which i didn't have after fresh install so I mistakenly just installed windows 7. Now when I start the computer I get promt to pick one OS at the beginning. I've only use windows 7 and wish to delete vista.

Q) how do i delete vista on C drive
Q) Will certain things get deleted if I remove vista?
Q) I noticed the computer freezes for 3 seconds and I hear some sound coming from my hard drive and after the sound disappears the computer un freezes (well its not a total freeze but the mouse cursor goes into the loading circle). This didn't happen previously. Will this problem be fixed if i remove vista?

I have 2 hard drives. 1 TB consisting of C,D,E drives and 1 2TB harddrive which is the F drive.

Thank you

Reinstall, and this time put it where you want it. Usually the 1st parttion. Get the size of it ( the partition ) before you start.

If you incorrectly installed Win7 from Vista so that it isn't C drive when booted into it, then I would reinstall by booting the installer so that Win7 is C when booted into it. You can delete Vista during Custom install by using the Drive Options: Clean Install Windows 7.

If Win7 is C when booted into it and you only want to remove Vista, , then post back a screenshot of your maximized Disk Management drive map with listings using the Snipping Tool in Start Menu. We'll give you the steps.

You can run Win7 on F drive if you want.

In order for Win7 to boot on its own it must be marked System Active. If so, set Win7 HD first to boot in BIOS setup.

If it's not, then mark it Active: Partition - Mark as Active from Vista Disk Mgmt. or an Elevated Command Prompt.

Power down to unplug the Vista HD so it doesn't interfere, boot into Win7 DVD Repair console or System Repair Disk to run Startup Repair 3 Separate Times to write the System boot files to Win7 until it starts on its own and holds the System Active flags.

You can then plug back in Vista HD making sure Win7 HD is set to boot first in BIOS setup, open an Elevated Command Prompt to wipe the Vista HD using Diskpart Clean Command.

It would be best to see the requested Disk Mgmt screenshot as there may be unexpected complications including Win7 being on a Logical drive which cannot be marked Active until converted using Partition Wizard bootable CD.

Only if you delete it during the install. Reinstall to C:, get your data off F: and then you can format F:

Better yet get the files now, b4 you start.
