You are not able to use onboard graphics and a graphics card at the same time.

You can use 1 card to power 2 monitors (and sometimes more depending on the card)

We need a stickie on GAMING rigs, so many people are unaware on what is needed for a reasonable gaming rig these days?

Better than average CPU, motherboard chipset, RAM, Video card, and power supply.

A very good starter kit for a reasonable gaming rig examples here with those 5 items:

AMD FX-8350, Asus Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition - System Build - PCPartPicker

or

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/14fZk [Intel variant]

That card would be a great update to my home rig. Not that I have any complaints from my 5850

My last card was a 5850 and yeah if I wasn't pushing multiple monitors and graphically intense multi-player games, the 5850 would be more than fine, still.

I have it boxed away as emergency replacement, and my 8800 GTS instead is active in my Linux box and doing a swell job, rarely used, any way. :)
