I have an old (very old) program that I just bought that is very useful, but it has caused a bit of a problem (which I fixed), but now it won't run.

When you install the program from CD's, it also installs JAVA v 1.3 (yea, I know, it's ancient). After installation, the program works fine. However, it disables about half the other programs I run because they want the latest JAVA.

I uninstalled the JAVA, reinstalled the latest version, but now the program won't run, saying that it needs JAVA 1.3.

Can I have both versions on my machine at the same time? Or should I separate them on a flash drive or hard drive partition?

I have a Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 machine, 64 bit. 1TB drive with plenty of room. 8 GB RAM

Suggestions, please.

Carl

If you try to install Java 1.3 while the new version (7 update 67?) is already installed, will the old java overwrite the new version?

Hi there! I don't know if this will help you but there's a link from the Oracle site that will tell you how to delegate certain RIAs in order to use specific Java versions in multiple applications.
https://blogs.oracle.com/java-platform-group/entry/managing_multiple_java_versions

Would you be able to keep the old Java on 1 browser, for instance, & the new version on another browser & just disable whichever version you're not using? If you have that option, you could easily disable the Java when necessary.
Good luck! I hope you're able to resolve it soon.
