Im sure this common knowledge for everyone,

and I know im being thick, but where do I find in windows 7, what programs, are suing how much resources, processes etc ?

Ive just installed 'ishutdown' server, and its going to be running constantly in the background, but would like to see how much it is draining...

many thanks,

Stuart

I typically just use task manager. You can get there 2 ways.

First right click on task bar on desktop. Select task manager.

Second go Ctrl+Alt+Del. A window will pop up. Choose task manager.

Once in task manager go to processes tab and it will show How much CPU\Memory a program is using.

Hope this is what you wanted to know.

Task manager should update every few seconds in case the memory usage has changed. If the memory usage changes task manager will see it.

Programs can use more ram whenever they like. For example every time you go to a different website the memory that Internet explorer uses will change. Some websites like youtube where you are watching a video in real-time will use a lot of ram over a period of time as the movie loads.

Hope this helps

it does help yes ...

I have sat an watched it, up and down - it doesn't change much ...

I then then downloaded a similar server app called 'off' for the iphone...this was using 3 times the amount of memory - so ill stick with iShutdown

many thanks

If you don't mind downloading and installing software - one of the better apps that I've come across that does what you ask is

Sorry about the multiple screenshots - it's all one window but won't fit in a single screenshot!
