Hi,

I'm not sure what I need to do so I hope I am asking this the right way?

I am moving and wont have access to my desktop for roughly 4 months.

I will have a laptop with windows 7 (desktop is also running 7) and also have an external Hard Drive with plenty of space (1T I think?) that I use to back up my desktop (doing it with system images).

What would be the best way to get all my files onto my laptop and then get them back to my desktop when I set it up down the road.

I am mostly interested in Outlook Express and My Documents but I think it's time I learn how to sync everything. I have an iPad as well (I'm just a little technologically challenged) :D

Thanks!

Use Macrium Reflect or something similar [I do not recommend Windows built-in backup & restore for this particular operation] to make a full image of your Data partition onto your trusted external media. Then restore that image onto your laptop. Make a full image of your laptop's data partition every week or so onto your trusted external media. When you get back home, simply restore your newest latest laptop's Data partition from your external media onto your desktop. I knowe nothing about Outlook, others will have to help you with that one.

Thanks! I have things on my Laptop now that aren't on my Desktop that I would like to keep. If I restore the Image to my Laptop wouldn't it wipe everything else out on it?

I have not used it, however, there is a restore option that will "look at" the laptop contents and "look at" the desktop image's contents, and only add back onto the laptop what is newer and/or existing only within the desktop's image. I hope I said that right! Others will have to enter in and give their advice :)
