Is it possible to install Windows 7 on my HP 6746C?

My Computer

OS
Windows 7 Pro 64 bit
Is there a way to install a stripped-down version, without all the bells & whistles?

Nope.
But what is wrong with all the bells and whistles?
It is still fast, and that is why they have more room to give it extra features.

Even with 512 MB of RAM, that system is woefully inadequate to run Win 7. Suggest you get a new system that's within your budget.

That's what I thought. This is speculative, but how would the machine run if I did install Windows 7 on it?

Like a bad joke.
Old boat anchors that do not meet the minimum recomended requirements for Vista or 7 should be retired or maintained with their current OS like XP. And that's all there is to it. And I can understand you wanting to hold onto a PC, but odds are you would run into compatibility and performance issues not worth the headaches or time.
