HP Bloatware...

Hello, does anyone know how to permanently remove HP mobile data protection sensor, i.e. hpdskflt.sys? I uninstall it in the device manager and it seems to reappear all the time.

Hi Micahl88 and welcome to the Forum. Usually when you delete something like this in Device manager it will reinstall itself the next time you boot. Instead of deleting it, try to just Disable it.
By the way, have you Googled "HP mobile data protection sensor" and do you know what it is for?

Uninstalling the driver in Device Manager does not get rid of it. Next time you start your system it reinstalls the driver from the software package installed on your machine.
You have to delete the software which is probably listed in Control Panel> Programs and Features.

So as Johnnya posted you will need to know what HP program it is installed in and delete that software.

Thanks for the input. I'm trying to rid myself of it because it had caused several bsod issues. Additionally, several other posters in the bsod section recommended that as a course of action based on my dmp files. Do any of you know what program that data protection thing resides in? Thanks again.

I don't.

Anyway I don't see this as bloatware seeing that it appears to be something to help protect the hard drive should you drop the notebook, I would imagine it'd be something you want.

Perhaps you might look into updating the drivers for it according to the link I provided. Maybe even give HP a call?

HP is the worst with the bloatware of any model. I clean reinstall any HP machine using the Product Key on COA sticker. Here's how: Reinstalling Windows 7

However the one HP utility I keep on a laptop is that one. It is important because it parks your HD reader so it cannot be damaged when you transport your laptop. That is why it has a driver which should be reinstalled if you clean reinstall your HP.

I am with Greg on this one. HP=Bloatware in my opinion.

Their archaic hardware and un-needed software addons make a clean and scrape necessary.

The only thing their accelerometer is good for is measuring earthquakes, and the fingerprint reader is a scourge

Without the bloatware they are stable and decent with, the bloatware a nighmare.

I would love to do a clean install. However, I am not sure how to do this when I have a system that shipped with vista and the only discs I have are the HP recovery disks. I read that link that gregrocker posted, but I don't see how that would work with a situation like mine, where I have to upgrade to 7 from Vista, unless I am just not seeing it....

My system (OEM) came with Vista and I purchased Windows 7 upgrade (32bit and 64bit discs).
I followed Gregrocker's instructions of Reinstalling 7 and everything is working fine.

I upgraded with a disc I got from my college. Which I still have and the key.

You do not need Vista on the HD to install or reinstall Win7 upgrade version, otherwise those with HD's which came with XP/Vista and die would have no way to reinstall Win7 - which you own for life to use to reinstall as many times as you want wherever you want it, but only on one machine at a time.

The Upgrade DVD will scan the HD at boot to see any other OS allowing the use of Upgrade version key, even if you go on to use Custom>Drive options to delete all partitions, repartition and format as suggested.

If you wipe the HD first or for any other reason it rejects the key, just leave the Product Key blank during install, then afterwards use the quick registry edit given here to activate Upgrade version key on cleaned HD: Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version

So the clean install that you prescribed went beautifully, thanks for the instructions. Two subsequent issues though. I have none of the HP drivers anymore and I'd like a few of them, the one for the quick launch keyboard buttons, the audio driver and the touchpad driver. If I just search hp's website and download them, will that correct the problem?
