The article is misleading. HP never stopped putting out Win 7 machines. They are just promoting them more since the deadline for selling them is in October this year.

Lenovo does have a new model (B590) notebook. I has several variations, some of which come with Win 7. Other variations are the kind of CPU, amount of RAM, and size of HDD. Amazon is one place that is selling them. I'm strongly considering getting one and keep my older Lenovo as a spare.

I think it's saying that they're favoring Windows 7 over Windows 8. Which imo is a good move. He's right, good news is never outdated :)

Well it's nice to see that a company is finally bringing back OEM Windows 7, most people seem to dislike windows 8. I 2 am one of those people that dislike windows 8, for the simple fact of the Metro UI. I would like to see all companies jump back to Windows 7 for the reason that maybe just maybe Microsoft will scrape the idea of a Metro UI and just go back to the old standard UI like we have seen since the early days of windows. There are many other ways to give a UI a fresh look with out making something that most people are going to dislike.

you know what would also be nice of they started re-selling Windows 7 as an upgrade from Vista and they started letting Anytime Upgrade to start working again so you can upgrade your edition if you wanted to and they need to sell the disc just in case some of those XP laptops and desktops can run Windows 7, but not 8.1

MS does the bad thing, they force proffesional and enthusist users to a toy interface that only works as advertisement center more than anything.

Microsoft, you can learn from HP, they have been in the market many years, and know what people want, you can do the same... right? Remember, loosin money is no business... are you earning money by not selling Windows 8 and trying even to give it for free?

So very true. At least HP understands that it is in the interest of their bottom line to provide what the customer wants. M$ seems to feel that they can dictate what the customer wants.

I am no fan of HP, I feel that they have compromised too much quality in the name of profitability. Dell is still selling Win 7 machines.

Nice to know they're bringing back OEM Windows 7. I have an OEM Windows 7 from HP (laptop) and it works good enough, at least since I removed the bloatware. Also, if I would get a new laptop what brand should I choose? And who still sells Windows 7 machines? I guess not many...

So far, I've seen some HP and Lenovo machines and read somewhere that Dell is still selling a few. Keep in mind those sales will have to end sometime in October.

I do recall that after Vista was rolled out, Dell continued to offer XP for quite some time, ultimately charging a $99 "downgrade" fee. I helped several clients navigate the process, they were even willing to pay the additional charge. I wouldn't be suprised to see the same scenario play out until the supply of licenses for 7 is exhausted. Maybe I should load up on retail copies of 7.......

You are too late for loading up on retail licenses. The few for sale now are either grossly inflated in price or are counterfeit (or both). OEM copies are still available...for now.

i just upgraded from home premium to professional i got an upgrade key through my school and when i went to windows anytime upgrade and i saw i could upgrade to ultimate from there so windows anytime upgrade does work again

Also have a pretty bad speaker setup which is a klipsch promedia 5.1 surround speaker setup with huge subwoofer and lg blu ray player/writer. Also a hp officejet pro 8600 plus wireless all in one and a logitech s7500 webcam.
It must be good business for HP otherwise they wouldn't do it.
