I installed Windows 7 x64 successfully both fresh installation and upgrade from Vista x64. All drivers installed but I didn't manage to get the fingerprint reader to work.

When I made a fresh installation, using the driver on AuthenTecs website for Win7 64, the Biometric Devices lists the device but marks it as unavailable.
If I use HP Protect Tools, it does not detect my fingerprint reader at all using this driver or the driver that comes with it.

When I ran an upgrade installation from Vista, HP Protect tools service did not run correctly and thus i was unable to log in at all.

Ideally I would like to use Authentecs drivers with 7's native support for biometric devices. If someone has managed with a model similar to mine, I would appreciate simple instructions or workarounds you may have used.

Cheers!

BTW: the fingerprint scanner model is AES2810

Hi, xmun, and welcome to the forums.

I have a 2710p and my upgrade was flawless.

However, looking at downloads available for yours, I see a couple in particular that you may *not* have installed that are going to be critical:

HP Compaq 6730b Notebook PC -  Download drivers and software - HP Business Support Center

Those are needed after Vista is upgraded to SP1 - specifically because of some of the files that SP1 changes.

Thus, it is safe to assume that W7 also changes at least some of the same files, and these updates (or at least some of them) are going to be necessary....
