hi, i have an older hp factory computer ..these are the specs:

HP Pavilion Elite HPE-140f Desktop PC Product Specifications | HP® Customer Support

i like this machine but the motherboard seems to be fried so im trying to save some coin and want to replace it with another board.. the issue is i want to make sure it can support an OEM Windows 7 install (the PC originally had a preinstalled kiddie version of Windows 7 - ... think they call it a partial bootable start disc machine?)

(i have a new full version sealed copy of windows 7 professional .. this is what i'd like to use)

i need to make sure before replacing the motherboard, that this is even possible - ive had mixed responses to this question and im not certain there are any non-hp factory preset motherboards out there that would be compatible (and support the existing Video Card ..RAM.. etc)??..

any help is appreciated

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
Well the board it's self is a MicroATX so if you want to use the same case that is what you would have to get
It also has a LGA1156 cpu socket so if you want to use it the new board would also need that as well.

Ram is pretty basic not sure why you'd want to reuse it
Or the video card either but it is a PCIe so it would fit in just about any board.

The Power supply is only 350Watt so it's pretty plain Jane so's to speak typical low powered unit.

The actual installation disk you have would work on just about any board but you don't say if it's 32 or 64 bit
64 bit would be the best to use if there's a choice but the hardware would have to support 64 bit

Personally I would just start from scratch because most of the hardware is not worth using
The case is also not really worth messing with either.

I transferred an Acer motherboard to a new case and it was barely worth it but I know the board and cpu/ ram are all that I need to replace later :)
