HP g62-460sx and windows 7 x64

I have formatted the preinstalled OS and i was wondering if i would still be able to recover my previous system if:

-i would install the version i previously had preinstalled


i was having problems with the quicklaunch drivers and the other preinstalled applications that came with my hp g62-460sx, that's why i would like to restore it to it's previous state that has all the preinstalled items.


is it possible to do that?

If you didn't delete the Recovery partition you might still be able to run it from boot: HP Factory Recovery

If not then your options are to order Recovery disks from HP Tech SUpport or follow these steps to get a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. Read the special note at end for HP Users.

>for example, i have home basic x64 Pre-installed and do a reformat with the same os, which nobody in the laptop /netbook world would normally do since their manufacturers' got "hard-to-find-vendor-specific" drivers and programs, would i be able to do the "factory reset" using the recovery partitions?

Most tech enthusiasts clean reinstall the factory image to get rid of the bloatware, which is the worst in the industry with HP.

I was having problems finding drivers that work with my friend's hp. I downloaded all the drivers for her model but not all of them work(e.g. Quick launch buttons for brightness and the multimedia buttons). They seem to require special drivers and programs.

I downloaded hp support assistant but it doesn't help find the necessary drivers.

I'm a newbie technician and this was my first time doing my job on a laptop that i didn't know that finding a working driver is such a pain in the neck.

so i started googling if it was possible for me to do a factory reset so that her laptop would run as fresh as it was back then.

She has 4 DVD's that seem to be backups but when i looked into them, i am doubtful that they contain the files needed for recovery.

Should they contain the files from the partitions?
what do they look like?

I've never seen an HP that wouldn't fully function after a Clean Reinstall. Follow the steps in the tutorial exactly, then after all Updates are done if any drivers or functionality is missing, import it from the Support Downloads webpage for the EXACT model.

If you're coming up short on software which is needed for a specific function that a driver will not satisfy, post back exactly what it is with the HP full model number and we will help you find it.

If you have 4 DVD's chances are they are the Recovery's backup, so try to boot each one (if not numbered) to see which one will boot and begin Recovery. On the same Support webpages for your model will be how to run Recovery.

Honestly, I was not aware of the restoration feature of HP when i did the reformatting thinking i wouldn't even break a sweat since i reformatted my pc many times already(sorry I forgot to tell you). Anyway, my friend's laptop model is:

Modelnum: hp g62-460sx
Serialnum: cnf0499sqk
Prodnum: Xf475ea#a2n

(i owe you the rep for helping me since i'm using mobile. But when i can use a desktop i will give u the rep. Can't go out since the weather here in the Phils. Hasn't normalized yet.)

I admit i am annoyed with HP's support and download site 'coz i always had a hard time accessing the info i need.

Let us know what you decide you want to do. You can try getting the DVD's to boot since they may well be Recovery disks which were made at setup, order them from HP support, or let us help you setup your Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 so that it beats the fatboy pants off of a bloated HP preinstall.

Well, what i really want to do is to restore it to its "shipped" condition. And from there i can decide on which of the preinstalled programs i would want to keep since some of them are quite handy(cyberlink app).

I can't work at it at the moment though since we're still waiting for the rains and floods to subside.

What i really want to do is to do a "really" clean format. What i mean is a fresh OS reinstall and manuall driver installation so it could run at the speed it was born with. But when i can't find the HP utilities and drivers that work(meaning i found the ones for my model and OS architecture), I opted for factory reset.

Ok, just to finalize it, i would like to just factory reset it and ask my friend what she'd want to keep.
