I have this pain in the ass problem with HP's mute button on my nc8430 laptop (Hp quick launch buttons). The core of the problem is that the system mutes the sound by default and the orange light on the button is always on. In reality that means that anytime I want to play something with sounds (mp3, movie, flash online video,..) the system needs like 10 seconds to turn on the sound card and after I finish playing the media file it again goes back to mute.

I tried installing/uninstalling different versions of "uncompatible" HP's QLB drivers, installing differend sound card drivers but nothing helps. The sound comes out everytime, except it needs 10+ secs every fuc***** time!?

If anyone has similar problems and found any solutions I'd be most grateful!!

What happens if you disable the quick launch buttons?

Ok here is what I did to fix mine.

First uninstall all drivers and download the latest ones from HP website.
Then reboot the machine not installing any of the drivers.
Right click the downloaded file and go to properties.
Go to the compatibility tab and click the run in Vista SP1 mode also check the run as administrator.
Then run the program after making these changes and reboot the machine.

Good to hear that worked.
Let hope they fix it when the OS comes to RTM.

I had the same problem. Went to Control Panel > Programs and Features, and uninstalled QLB. No more problems, works fine.

Hello, I was also having this problem with my HP dv41120us and found a solution that works!

The mute icon on my keyboard keeps on making a sound whenever it turns to orange color. Also most of the time, my laptop just freezes and I'm thinking might be something related to my sound device. Most of the suggestion here says you have to reinstall your sound driver. They are correct but you need to install the correct driver else they won't work.

The driver I used is sp41693.exe which can be download from HP (just google it I'm sure you'll find where to download it). Hope that helps. Good luck! :geek:
