HP Laserjet 1022

Hi All - Hope there's some print sharing experts here.

HP have updated their drivers for Win7 (32 & 64bit). I run the desktop with Win7 64 bit with the 1022 connected. The laptop runs Win7 32 bit.

Everything prints fine from the Desktop which the 1022 is connected to via USB. The laptop can see the 1022 but printing a test page from the laptop simply doesn't happen. You can see the test file in the 1022 print queue but that's it so obviously it's getting across the wi-fi network. Both are members of the homegroup with everything enabled.

Rebooting the Desktop back into Win XP (32bit) and everything prints just fine to the printer from the laptop. I think I've tried everything so any help/advice would be appreciated.

You say that you can see the laptop print job, in the que on the desktop that has the printer connected. Does the job hang or does it disappear from the que after a brief period. Please let me know as I have had this problem before and I may have a work around for you

It just hangs there when printed from the laptop. You can see it in the print queue.

How did you install the printdrivers from your laptop?

The laptop found the printer and it installed the drivers itself after I set the printer up on the desktop.

Hi All - some more info.

Just booted up an old laptop running Win XP (32 bit) and it found the Desktop printer immediately. Printed Test Page out fine.

Rebooted (again) the laptop running Win 7 (32 bit) and the Test Page failed to print. It stayed in the queue with the message 'spooling'.

Try this and let me know if it works. Delete the printer from the laptop "Devices and Printers Folder. Go here and download the driver HP LaserJet Host Based Plug and Play Package HP LaserJet 1022 Printer - HP Customer Care (United States - English) use 7 zip or some other archive utility to extract the executeable and expose the dot inf file. Now "Add a Printer" choose add local choose create a new port, then local port, in the port name box add \\ip address of desktop\sharename of 1022 next have disk, next browse to folder where you extracted the executeable. I know it seems like a BS way to get a share network printer to work...but I have used it before with some success. Let me know

Also you may want to check the event viewer on both machines to see if you are getting any error messages referencing print jobs and specifically any including "Access Denied" at the end. I know I had a problem like this one time with a 2008 r2 server and the solution as I recall was to grant users write permission to the C:\Windows\System32\spool because as they were using this printer they had to be able to create a temp file to do so....so if the above doesn't work, then try this and let me know

A few posts below this one in the network and sharing group there is a thread about Can't get printer to work by petacof. Found it by searching threads. They had the same issue with the 1020 and 1022 printer as you and resolved it by disabling bi-directional printing in the printer properties on the host machine...read #8 permalink. Not sure why this would work...but hey any port in a storm check it out and thank the guys on the other thread if it works

It is now working but to keep other members informed this is the process I went through.

Reinstalled the latest HP drivers on both the Win7 Desktop (64bit) and the Win7 Laptop (32bit). Still a no go but funnily enough, leaving the Test Page in the queue and rebooting the Desktop back into Win7 then the page would print.

Looked at the event services and there was nothing in there untoward.

Tried the local port idea \\192.168.0.3\HP LaserJet 1022 but it kept coming up with Access is Denied. I guess that could have been overcome.

Just spotted your last message on the forum and I disabled bi-directional support in the 1022. Hey presto, everything sprang into life as it should be. The Test Page printed immediately from the Laptop.

Like you I have no idea why this would affect things but it does. So all happy campers here.
