I have an HP M1522 NF multi function peripheral attached to a PC running

Windows 7.

I needed to re install the drivers and software the other day but now it

will only install the printer drivers and not the scanner drivers or any

of the accompaying software?

I have tried deleting as many registry entries as I could find and any

files and folders accept any dll files in the system32 folder beacuse I do

not know which ones to delete and everytime I try and install the new

software from the HP website it almost finishes then I get a Fatal Error

message.

It says that it has found a newer version of the same software please go

to the HP support website for help Fatal Error: MSI.hpp.l Service?

I have posted to the HP forum but have received no replies for quite some

time now?

Any help would ne really apprecited.

Thanks.

Hello Fool Monkey. Welcome to the Forum.

You don't say what W7 OS you're using (Home, Premium, etc.) or whether the new printer drivers are from CD/DVD or download, or whether this is a USB connection. That info could be important.

You might want to perform a System Restore to a date before you tried upgrading the drivers and deleting files and keys. This is a general rule in making any system changes with me. I always create a restore point before any system change. If I don't like the results I go back, then try something else. The reason for this is that you don't "dig yourself a hole", where one bad change compounds with another, etc etc, and you've got a mess.

It is not unusual for a driver package to not install a "new" scanner driver. That is simply because the one you have on your system is the same as the "new" one. The package will update the (newer) printer driver and that's all. If you try to force older or incorrect drivers into the system you could trigger those errors.

Try this:

  • Find where the driver files are located on the DVD or download (if it is a zip file) and note the path.
  • Go to Devices & Printers > Add a Printer (top bar)
  • Choose "Add a Local Printer" (is it a local printer?) > Next
  • Use an existing Port > Choose USB001 from the drop down box (is it connected by USB?) > Next
  • In the Install The Printer Driver Window, navigate to the folder where the printer drivers are stored > Next
  • Plug in the printer and test.
Let's see if that works.

Thanks TVeblen

Hello TVeblen

I will try your suggestions and let you know what happens.

It is win 7 pro, USB Install, the Software from the HP Site is below the starange thing is that there are 5 choices for that all in one unit, why is that?

HP LaserJet M1522 MFP Series Full Solution AP.

I wanted to try a system restore but the PC is also used for motel reservations and it took 7 hours the other day for the remote techs to fix an issue so was trying to avoid that again. By the way the HP unit was working fine before they did all of that work?

Thanks again, much appreciated.

The driver you linked me to is for 32 bit W7. Just be sure you have 32 bit and not 64 bit installed (Start > Right Click on Computer > Choose Properties)

There are 5 full version software packages for different languages (took me a while to figure that out!)

It is very possible that some change the techs made affected your printer.

Hi again TVeblen,

I managed to get the HP software to install via the USB express install method after deleting all the .ink, .sys, and .dll HP related files and removing HP registry entries. But both of the scanner buttons on the unit still do not work?

Any ideas?

Your help is most appreciated.

Mmmm. I always scan from my computer, not to my computer from my All-In-One. So I am not up on the process of scanning from the printer's buttons.

A couple ideas:
It could be a Windows Firewall (or 3rd party firewall) issue.
It could be a UAC issue.

Can you scan from the computer using the "Windows Fax & Scan" program built into W7? From the computer using HP scan software?

HP All In One Scan Button Issue:

Hi TVeblen,

I can scan in all other ways except from the two scan buttons.

The top button says ( scan to ) and gives an error message,

Not Connected To PC with a yellow ! that lights up?

It was working before just fine before?

The UAC was turned off awhile ago.

Thanks Again.

That indicates to me that there is nothing wrong with the drivers, so you could forget about those.

You have a connection issue. The scanner does not connect to the PC, but the PC can connect to the scanner. That indicates a firewall or permissions issue. Unfortunately, not my strong suit.

I suggest starting a new thread in the Network & Sharing forum to address your specific problem, and someone with a lot more experience with these kinds of issues will be able to help you.

Did you check your firewall settings?

Did you check your firewall settings?

Hi TVeblen,

No I have not checked the firewall settings but I will.

I will also try to use the scan buttons with the firewall turned off to see if that helps.

I really appreciate all of your assistance.

Thank you :D:D:D

Yeah, I wouldn't get hung up on the "upgrade from Vista" part. Your symptoms are just way too similar to be a fluke or coincidence. I'm guessing that, for whatever reason, a change to your system mimics the cause, and even if that exact fix does not solve it, the solution will be a fix very similar to it.
