Hello, can anyone help me to find a driver for my video controller? I've just upgraded to windows 7 from xp, and HP doesnt seem to make drivers for my old laptop anymore, though windows 7 is running pretty smoothly! I've been able to find all of the missing drivers, like the one for my soundcard, and install them either in vista or xp compatibility mode, but I can't seem to find this last one. I read in another thread that the hardware IDs might be helpful. Well, here are the hardware ids listed for my video controller (I'm still not even sure what the video controller does):
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2792&SUBSYS_3081103C&REV_03
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2792&SUBSYS_3081103C
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2792&CC_038000
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2792&CC_0380

If anyone could help me with this, I would certainly appreciate it.

Oh, one other thing, while I'm posting here, my track pad works to click and move the pointer around the screen, but the scrolling functionality has gone. Anyone have any suggestions on this one? Thanks.

Those are the same IDs as on my tablet PC and it's running an Intel 915GM chipset, which means (1) NO aero, period, and (2) get the video drivers from Microsoft Update Catalog.

The driver I have installed is 6.14.10.4764, dated 1/13/07 and, as far as I know, that's the most current available.

Hey lr1101, I seem to recall downloading a ton of different drivers, but I don't think I ever did get a proper video controller driver. Everything works properly on my laptop now except for transferring the video from the laptop screen to an external screen, like my TV via the S-Video port. This is a shame, because I found that really useful. oh well... I'm watching a lot of DVDs on my laptop screen these days. If you do come across a driver that works, pease post a link to it here. Also, does anyone else with this laptop have it overheat and shut down a lot? Mine has started doing this a lot in the past six months. I suppose it's starting to show its age.

It might not hurt to get a can of canned air and blow out the fans and exhaust ports as I'm sure it has collected its share of bust bunnies over the years. Also a laptop cooling pad may not be a bad idea at this time to help extend it's life span.
If ussing it on a flat surface I've found propering it up on even a couple of paint stir sticks helps with the air flow and keeps mine cooler. Hope some of these ideas might help. Fabe

Thanks for the suggestions thefabe, I think I'll try the compressed air. The laptop still works fine otherwise. I think it's crazy to get a new laptop every 4 or 5 years, when your old one just needs a little TLC. Also, thank you very much for the link lr1101, I'll try this out when I get home tonight.

Anyone have the working driver that lr1101 found for the HP dv4000 that is compatible with Windows 7? I hate not having aero on my laptop. It actually kind of hurts my eyes without aero.

Thank you so much. I will give this a try. I really hope it works. Have been looking for a solution for about 3 months now.

Do you know which file I run to install it? I was looking for maybe setup.exe but there isn't.

thanks for the quick responses. After a couple hours of looking for a driver I finally found one that worked, here's a link: MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service
Just extract and run the install.bat. Hope it works for you too.

Hi, Dear Ir1101
The link you provided is not working (obviously you posted it years ago :-) but I see your profile you are using dv4000, and OS-windows 7, ,,, the same here. You maybe change you PC/Laptop later but I have it still for common little-memory purposes. The issue is Video Controller is missing.. Can you help please?? You might have saved that driver to your flash drive, CD or hard drive...I think. If yes I would like to have.. Thanks in advance for your kind and favorable reply. I am waiting for you.
