I have an HP Pavilion dv6 running Windows 7, and I have a problem with the volume control; not that it's not working correctly, but that it is.

Volume control on a dv6 is done through a touch-sensitive panel above the keyboard. This is the only way to change the volume using your fingers (there's no other buttons on the keyboard that have that function).
The problem is that there's no way to change the volume without switching to another window, alt+tab style. If I'm playing a game or a maximized movie, changing the volume immediately switches out of the game window or un-maximizes the movie window. Just changing the volume is a huge pain.

Does anyone know of any patches or fixes that change this?

aarondkap,

Do you have HP MediaSmart installed? If yes, try uninstalling it.

Hey Bill2,

sorry im new to windows 7 and skipped the vista era. I am trying to speed up my dv6 laptop as i expected it to be faster than it was. I just searched dv6 and was trying things that people have posted.

I went to do what you said but there is 8 mediasmart programs on my unistall list and was wondering. Do I unistall all or is there a specific one?

if i do unistall all of them is it going to stop certain hardware bits from working. eg if i delete mediasmart dvd will i still beable to watch movies still? or mediasmart webcam. will skype still recognise my webcam?

They proberbly sound like newbie questions so feel free to treat me like one.

Thanks
