Hi,

Your motherboard is a :ar: MSI and is able to use i3/i5/i7 processors:
With a LGA 1156 (Socket H) The available CPU's for a LGA 1156 socket are:
:ar: http://www.msi.com/product/mb/P55M-GD41.html#/?div=CPUSupport

Also a comparison chart: :ar: http://processors.findthebest.com/d/p/LGA-.-1156

Hope this helps

Cheers
Dave

I would like to point out that he is not talking about PC in his spec but about laptop in his post.

I don't think there is good way to upgrade that laptops CPU its old and not worth the risk.
usually it's not so easy to upgrade laptop CPU as it is with desktop. this model is quite old so it would be hard to get compatible CPU. T5250 uses PPGA478 socket. there is confusion with socket P and Socket M so you need to be careful if you decide to search for CPU, and you need to make sure that your laptop will support it.

I would call HP directly to see what your options are.

As mentioned a cpu in a laptop is not something you would normally upgrade, but I`m sure it can be done.

I'm sorry to bring this old thread back but I am currently fixing & repairing my cousin's HP pavilion dv6648se entertainment laptop PC and it is possible to upgrade & replace the CPU (an Intel Core 2 Duo T5250) with a faster one (it used to have 2gigs of RAM but replace the modules with a pair of Crucial 2Gb 667Mhz RAM chips for a total of 4GB but only 3Gb is usable because it is running a 32bit/x86 version of Win7 home premium)

however, changing/upgrading the processor on that HP laptop is not for amateurs. it will require almost disassembling the laptop (kinda like taking it apart almost completely) and removing its motherboard in order to reach the CPU socket area as mentioned in this HP dv6500 maintenance and service guide. it also requires these tools listed in that guide (flat-bladed screwdriver, hex 5mm nut driver, magnetic screwdriver and philips p0 & p1 screwdrivers). I know this from experience as I have done this myself.

Note: if you are not comfortable trying to "disassemble" the HP laptop, try to find a local computer repair shop to perform the CPU upgrade.

The fastest processors for a dv6648se might be either an Intel Core 2 Duo T9300 or T9500 [which btw are Socket P type processors - the same size as the old T5250], but installing either one requires a BIOS update (look for the "F.5A" bios update from the sp48024.exe file from HP). Update the BIOS to version F.5A before attempting to upgrade the Intel CPU chip to a faster one.

after a few hours of disassembling the HP laptop, replacing the old T5250 CPU with the T9500 CPU and then re-assembling & powering on the laptop, the system runs about 1.5 times faster overall. note that my cousin's hp dv6648se laptop already had Crucial 4Gb (2x2gb) [667Mhz] DDR2 RAM on there

attached screenshot of my cousin's HP Pavilion DV6648SE notebook computer using the Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile T9500 processor chip running Windows 7 SP1 Home Premium 32bit

I also replaced the old Western Digital WD2500BEVS (250Gb) hard drive with a WD3200BVVT (320Gb) hard drive on there.

also, the Windows Experience Index "subscores" for CPU, RAM and hard drive improved substantially with the T9500 processor upgrade.
I recorded the following scores:

(using T5250 processor and WD2500BEVS hard drive)
WEI subscore for T5250 CPU = 4.2, WEI subscore for RAM using T5250 CPU = 4.5
WEI subscore for WD2500BEVS hard drive = 5.2

(using T9500 processor and Western Digital WD3200BVVT hard drive)
WEI subscore for T9500 CPU = 6.1, WEI subscore for RAM using T9500 CPU = 6.1
WEI subscore for WD3200BVVT hard drive = 5.9
