Hey!
I had a WinXP pc with HP printer 880C.
Changed to a new pc now with Win7.
According to what HP say they do no longer support this printer for Win7. However I found that this printer can indeed be used with Win7, because MS made a special driver for it and have this driver available for download and install, and it can work perfectly the printer is connected to the pc with a USB cable. So I bought me one and prepared same for connecting to my PC.
After adding a printer device via regular way Start - Add printer - local port and after downloading Windows driver update for the printer I could install driver for HP 882C, which is the same printer as HP880C as far as the driver is concerned. I then connected the cable but configuring the LPT1 port did not work, nor could I switch to a USB port and configure it. Although everything seems to work correct on my screen, but printing itself does not work. So I can see on the screen and give all instructions for printing and these instructions are visible on the screen in similar windows as it was before with Win XP...
So I wonder: What did I wrong? Why does my printer not work, whereas everything seems to be OK?
Does anybody know what I can do ?....

It seems like you may have added some extra steps in there. All you should have to do is connect the printer by USB cable, run Windows Update while the printer is powered on, and let the drivers install. You shouldn't be missing with ports, especially not LTP1.

Hey!
Thank you for your advise....
What now? I did several times as you said, first remove the printer bnecause it wa already in the list, then connect the printer with te USB cable and run Windows Update, stating clearly to install the driver for HP 882C printer on LPT1, and indeed the printer appears on the list of printers and faxes even with a special mark as being the standard printer. I can see evrything that I command to the printer appearing in the regular printer windows but printing itself?... No!
Something must be wrong or forgotten and I don't know what nor can think what it could be....
Somebody completing news?

If you are using the USB cable, then LPT1 doesn't come into play at all. That's a parallel port. The printer driver might be telling you to connect the printer via parallel port to get it to work. You could try changing the port after-the-fact to whichever USB port the printer is listed as using, but I don't know how well that would work.

Hey!
Last trial today...
I did as you said. No LPT1 port now, but the only USB-port that seems available USB001... Same result, all printer windows OK but no printing at all....
I will continue tomorrow trying to connect end testing this printer....

Hi,

I have the same issue with an HP deskjet D4363. It worked just fine when I bought it in November and then just stopped.... At first it would print 3 or 4 lines and then freeze. Now it does nothing and isn't even recognised by windows as a printer... I have a code 43 error unrecognised device in my device manager under usb.I have uninstalled the printer and drivers, deleted temp files, reinstalled on windows selective start-up. Tried all available usb ports... at my wits end because I don't understand how it can work one day and the next not!
