HP printer and Drivers

Simple solution, just don't use the newest drivers when they are
made available (i.e. - if it ain't broke, don't fix it). I have an Epson
Stylus CX4200 which uses epson13071.exe as an install package
(since this printer is no longer produced), the drivers were last
updated in July of 2009.

The other advantage of this model is that the cartridges
(T060120, T060220, T060320, and T060420) all hold 17ml
of ink (each), and can be refilled. Perhaps there should be
a wiki portal with information that users can supply for the
printer models they own, and drivers which work with refills.

The razor and blades approach for printers is acceptable, but
pathetic for companies which have long since recouped their
investment in their 'proprietary ink' issues.

Also, the quantity of ink cartridges hold has also been decreasing
and in my opinion, just another way to rip consumers off.

I wouldn't be surprised to see these "refill" houses go under in the coming years.

Really?

I would think the customers love the refill houses.

They don't want to be forced to pay the exorbitant prices charged by the Brands.

If the brands are trying everything they can to stop consumers having a choice - then the EU commission will have something to say about that.

And so they should.

Imagine buying a car from say, Ford.

Then being forced to buy only gas supplied by Ford ( at whatever price they felt like charging )

Absurd.

SIW2,
I eat re-fried beans so I can be a multi-supplier...Chevy,Ford, Edsels, Packards, and Kia!!!

I set my HP deskjet for draft printing when I print most of my doc's to save on ink.
If I need better quality, such as photo's, then I adjust the quality level.

The printer business is no different than Microsoft and all the OS we have purchased along the way.

How is it no different from Microsoft?

Sure MS have been in hot water e.g. for trying to use their monopoly in the desktop market to give their browser an unfair advantage.

MS don't try and prevent the o/s from working if you use a 3rd party browser, or imaging app. , or partition manager, etc.

SIW2,

Was just trying to playing devils advocate by using MS as an example and having a little fun with you.
No harm no foul!
