HP Printer Printing goes nuts!

A friend of mine informed me that they have an HP printer/scanner/fax all in one. The printer itself (from the computer) has started acting up. When you print something, it prints one letter per line right down the middle of the page. It's weird. I have looked around but am at a loss. Anyone know what could be wrong???

Going to need a lot more specific information to get this right. It's possible something has just been set improperly in the printer options. It's also possible the installation of hp's enormous printer software suite is messed up somehow.

Can't really say one way or the other without knowing more specifics.
Type of computer, version of windows on it, model of printer....
