Well the Holidays got the best of me and I didn't post what my resolution was.
It was the Motherboard!
The backside, under the video chip was browning and it didn't take much looking to see many were having problems with this AMD motherboard. The owner choose to put in another Non-HP motherboard and I reloaded windows and restored files.
Again this MB was barely past warranty and had no obvious problems like blown caps. The over heating was pretty subtle. I get the feeliing, after indtalling the new MB, that HP was throttling down the fans to reduce noise. The new MB definately ran the fans much faster.
