hp remote not working on windows 7

hi since i installed windows 7 on my notebook everything else works flawlessly except for the hp remote control...i installed all the drivers for the ene cir receiver drivers for windows 7 x64 bit also tried the x86 but it still isn't functioning...do u guys know any drivers or 3rd party software that u think might work?i really need the hp remote to work...because the job i do can really use it...i have the hp pavilion dv7-1170US any help would be greatly appreciated.

yes all the drivers i have tried were from the official hp website for windows 7 for my model x86 and x64 i have tried..i have even chat with technical support there and they still don't know what's going on...but if i install the drivers for vista i see activity like it finds the device partially installs it even says it has been installed successfully..but when i press the remote none of the buttons work..and i also still see an unknown device error in device manager....

It is very important to understand which drivers to install. You should not be attempting to install both x86 and x64 drivers on W7 x64. If you have successfully installed W7 x64 then your hardware does support it and therefore your hardware is x64.

The packages (.exe) from HP should be designed to run only on a system that is properly recognized as x86 or x64, but apparently and according to your notes, they do not - they leave it up to the end user to pick and install the proper drivers.

Making sure you have actually installed W7 x64, I would go right down the list of the provided W7 drivers from HP for your laptop (the link I provided) and download and install each one in the order provided, making sure each one applies to your laptop.

And note that HP is always late with new OS support for systems not released with the OS on it and often does not provide additional drivers for new OS's for older hardware. This is a decision by HP and not Microsoft.

As such HP has never had my business and never will.

ofcourse i understand what drivers i am to install...i didnt wanna go into detail on how i actually tested the drivers..but i installed x86 windows 7 and downloaded the appropiate drivers for it and it still didn't work..installed vista x86 and downloaded all drivers for it and the remote still didn't work....went back to windows x64 and tried those drivers from the very said link u gave me and it still doesn't work....mind u before i install any driver i always remove the existing one and reboot....so i can firmly say that the drivers from the hp website doesn't work for the infared device at all...i have even seen via google search a lot of other folks with different model numbers hp labtops that have the same problem that they can't get there remote to work after installing win7...hp support chat told me that he looked at it and see that the driver is still in testing..i don't know if he could be just saying that to keep me calm.......but hp is the best and has the best support...just this lil issue with the remote i need to get sorted out....

Here is my advice:

A) Run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor before installing. MS has gone to great lengths to provide tools to consumers that want to take advantage of the upgrade option and do not want to have to pay for new hardware. You can even run it from within an installation of W7.

B) With the respect that i hope is due: IF you “know” what drivers to install, you would know that you do not need x86 drivers on an x64 system, which is why i decided to make this my last note tonight, as quite frankly, it gets a bit silly to have people inform me of what i know.

C) I understand that there are many who want a quick solution, but if the consumer does not understand the difference between a quick fix download and a known solution, they are at their own peril.

na..i don't think i need to go tru all that upgrade advisor stuff...i just need to get a working driver for the infared device...or hp microsoft need to issue out a working driver for it or something.....because everything else works great excepting the remote...thanks for your suggestion though.
