Hey forum, I have notice that once I upgraded from the factory loaded vista with all the hp preloaded software and drivers on the partition to windows 7 all the hp software is gone. Is that standard especially since I found out that I cannot go back to vista ?

Yes, assuming you did a "clean" install.

You are probably better off without the HP software. Look for other free applications that do the same thing as the discarded HP apps.

upgrade not clean install

hi there thanks for your reply
i upgraded and not clean install
the partition which houses the factory vista OS and software drivers etc is the only hp representation on my pc.
why would everything just disappear?
the hp software was just very convenient and readily avail.
I have consistently been experiencing problems with windows 7 on this pc to the point where i am trying my utmost to obtain a vista recovery disk set from hp but even that is proving much more difficult than anticipated.

A question I have though. If I where to factory restore my pc from the factory restore partition containing vista ( given I didn't upgrade to W7 since then I couldn't do that) and save an image of my hd. If I upgrade to W7 could I restore to the vista image again at a later point?

You can try Factory Recovery from its partition by tapping the F11 key at boot, or boot the Recovery disks you should have made when setting up your Vista computer or before upgrading.

If the HP crapware is gone then you must have chosen a Custom clean install of Win7.

What I would do is follow these steps to get a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7
with the Product Key which came with your Win7 upgrade. If you stick with these steps to install and maintain it then you'll have perfect performance. We will help you see to that.

I don't find a "pavilion dv 6735en" listed.

Assuming that it's the same as a pavilion dv 6735, you can most likely use the Vista drivers to restore the features that were lost when installing Windows 7.

HP hasn't helped you at all in the 3 weeks since your initial post, and you haven't been able to sort out Win7 yourself in that time?

Hey there
I tried a clean install on a spare hd which didn't give me 100 % functionality across my hardware( I formatted and did the clean install a few times trying various setups) hence I returned to my original disk which I upgraded.
This is why it seemed strange that I lost all my hp software.
Idiots come in various shapes and sizes and I am guilty since I didn't create a recovery disk a hard lesson I am learning since now I am told on the forum I cannot return to vista unless I buy a recovery disk set from hp.
I have been getting the runaround from hp wrt the recovery disks.
I bought the laptop in Dubai and I have even attempted requesting HP South Africa to request a set from HP middle east to no avail.
I will attempt to contact them personally when I return to SA
For now I will start fresh on the spare ( clean install) hd and will keep you posted if thats ok.
Sorry about the length of this MSG but I figure the more info you have the better assessment you can make.
Please don't hesitate to ask for any additional info you might need
Thanks for all the assistance I receive.

You should have consulted us during the Clean Reinstall so we could have helped solve each issue as it arose. Instead you didn't even reply to Bob's attempt to clarify your model number.

This is a specialty of these forums for which we are recognized as the top source on the web.

There is no reason to go back to Vista. I've never seen an HP Clean Reinstall which could not have all functionality returned using it's specific drivers or (sparingly and only if necessary) feature software from the HP website Support Downloads webpage for your model.

Start with the steps in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. Post back any issues which cannot be resolved.

Hey sorry for the confusion.
I thought I clarified by confirming I bought it in Dubai and it shows up on the hp middle east website.
It is a pavilion dv6735en entertainment pc- S/N: CNF 8041ktp
Furthermore at the time I was doing the install I was on the vista and hp forums... Yes silly me I know but thanks for your confirmation, I will definitely take you up on your offer and will follow the steps you stated.
Many thanks and apologies
