I have a HP Pavilion g series laptop running 64 bit Win7. My daughter for some reason was having problems and decided to reinstall the OS using cd's from a friend that I was unaware of. I ordered the System Recovery DVDs, which there are 2 along with another CD that says Application and Driver Recovery DVD. I've gone thru the installation process with the system recovery dvd's and continue to get BOOTMGR is Missing message. I can boot into the Advanced Boot Options using F8 but do not see a system repair option. I tried safe mode with command prompt and it just brings me back to the 'Welcome to Recovery Manager' from the DVD. So while in safe mode I tried re-installing again using the System Recovery DVD's. I get the same BOOTMGR is Missing message.

I'm not sure what to do.

The machine that I'm using to type this is a HP laptop using Vista. I did a search on boot and found a file called boot on my D:\ drive and a boot folder on my C:\ drive. The boot folder has a bunch of different folders such as cs-CZ, da-DK, bootfix.bin. Is this what your talking about?

Have you talked to HP as that`s where you got the recovery discs from.

The error you're getting means it's trying to boot the HD. You want to boot the disks: How to Boot A Computer from CD or DVD - YouTube

You're better off dumping the HP bloatware which throttles Win7 from it's native performance. Everything you need is here to Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 with the Product Key on the COA sticker for the licensed version you own to reinstall any way you please.

If you'd prefer to run the HP Recovery Disks to reinstall the worst load of crapware in the industry then first wipe the HD with Diskpart Clean Command accessing DISKPART At PC Startup. This will cause the Recovery Disks to autostart when you place them in the drive, one at a time in order.

Exactly, you can`t run the discs while you`re in windows, as you state, "While in Safe Mode" you have to drop them in the dvd tray and reboot the machine and the recovery process should start.

As Greg explained.

Ok, decided to run a Primary Hard Disk Self Test from the Diagnostics utility. Getting a Hard Disk 1 Quick (303) error which according to the HP forums means the hard drive is failing. So since it's still under warranty gonna contact Office Depot where I bought it and send it in. Hopefully, all will be ok when I get it back. Thanks for everyone's help.
