HPET support

I have found this function in the BOIS in both my Vail x64 machine and W7 x64 machine. Brief reading suggests this should enable better 64 bit support however on both machines the driver won't install and I get a driver error for PCI Simple Communications Controller.

Does anyone know why the driver won't load or whether this will make any difference to performance on either machine?

W7: 16 GB Ram, SATA II HD on AHCI, Intel DG45ID mobo, HPET enabled

Vail: 6 GB Ram, 2 x SATA II on AHCI Native SATA, Gigabyte P965 mobo, HPET set to 64 bit.

I have a Gigabyte board, but AMD, and the HPET was enabled by default. Never had a problem with the driver, however. Would not the driver be included with the chipset driver package?

I just disabled it! Ran DPC checker, HPET was causing a 100ms reading. With HPET off, checker reads 5ms. FYI

How are you getting 5µs? I have disabled HPET and got 100µs down from 150µs.

I disabled it too and it dropped to 49μs, with a spike to about 250μs--which was still lower than the 349μs it read with HPET enabled

Well, Its an SSD machine, cpu and ram are OC'd, and I have turned off a lot of windows services. Just lucky I guess??????
Easytune6 was also an issue. I was using it to monitor cpu and mobo temps. Caused a 4000 ms spike when running. I just leave it off now. Monitoring apps will affect this.

5us... nice! I'm running at 10 or 11 consistently, with HPET enabled I'm at 50 to 60us.

So, how does your machine feel with low DPS latency, any problem running audio/video. I had to do a little more work in Win-7 to get DPC latency down, WinXP didn't require as much tweaking.
