HTML help with Speed Dialer?

Hi,

Not sure if this is the appropriate forum, apologies if not, but hopefully this will not be a terribly tough one to answer. At least I wouldn't have thought so, though the several versions of Firefox Speed Dial looked at all had this behavior, so ...

It's always been easy enough to just gesture up a new start page when needed, but now I'd like to keep it pinned to FF 4 if I can, and am wondering whether the code might be modified so as to have the Google search results leave the start page intact and open in a new tab? I downloaded about a dozen of these mini apps from deviantart this morning and all did the same. Not even holding shift or ctrl work, and I even have Tab Mix Plus (temporarily) set to have everything sent to a new tab -- no good. Googling the question online I get the idea that it may not be so simple. (?)

You can get Speed Dial pinned in FF4. And you can open pages from it in a new tab.

Check Speed Dial Option - Controls tab - section Mouse click actions.

Thanks Neutron16. The only actual problem I've been seeing (and not just since I've had it among my pinned apps tabs, in my experience Google has always behaved this way via Speed Dial pages) is that the Google search results land on the same tab, overwriting of course the entire start page ... and by the bit which I've been reading since yesterday it's apparently been giving people with vastly more knowledge than I this difficulty in trying to redirect the search results onto a new page -- for all sorts of reasons which they may have, not all merely related to using Speed Dial.

All other hotlinks on the Speed Dial page do, of course, easily go wherever one may wish -- I'm inclined to think that it may be something related to the way in which Google works, since it wouldn't even pay attention to the Tab Mix Plus redirection setting, only time I've seen that happen.

BTW, I'm only referring here to one of the many generic Google Start Page Speed Dials which are are of course a breeze to make up and pass around. Thanks for the screenshots, Neutron16, I'll install the Kosher version and give it a try!

So here's my Google Start Page/Speed Dial (as they're loosely described by many). You may notice, for instance, I've put my own favicon on it, appearing clear to the left on the tabbar.







Then I search for Santa and hit enter, and Google overwrites my tab/page ... whereas I'd prefer that the HTML on the Google Start-up Page (or Speed Dial) could somehow be written to send these search results to a new tab, leaving my Speed Dial page intact, just to avoid the hassle of always having to retrace my steps to restore it under its tab once again. A trivial thing in my case, just thought it would be a more convenient setup. But more than that by now, I'm interested in the code which would be needed, and why so many seem to have trouble getting Google to display anywhere but on the original query page.

ok. You were taking about custom start pages.

In most cases that whould be <FORM> tag handling these thing.And the attribute for the tag should be "target=_blank" to open in new tab (in FF4 opens in new tab, in IE9 in a new window)
